The boys are totally obsessed with the box today. I can hear them rumbling with the packing materials now. I vaguely remember playing in boxes myself when I was super small. More clearly I remember 'the house', fabric sewn by my grandmother placed on a card table. Really impressive, it was. There were also the extravagant sheet tents in my room, and, of course, closets..
There is something about hidden confined places that I am really attracted to.

I am in an odd-feeling state of denial after learning that the Supreme Court finally ruled yesterday in the Jama case. The court ruled in favor of John Ashcroft against Kasi Jama, a Somali man who is now going to be deported back to Somalia, even though the recently appointed government of warlords still deem it unsafe to return and are serving in exile. This ruling sets precendence for many other Somalis who will now likely face the same fate. I am scared for the futures of all undocumented immigrants.
Moreover, I could not find a single fucking article in the news, including BBC and NPR. I heard NPR aired this info this morning, but couldn't find shit on their website. This reeks of my 1984 moment with BBC following the recent Somali elections in which one minute there was an article proclaiming Yusuf a warlord and the next it was replaced by a prettied account of his atrocities, rephrasing his violent coup as a climb to power, omitting the number he killed, and merely venturing that "some refer to his style of leadership as authoritarian."
We must not interfere with the hope of democracy (if that's what we're calling it) and capitalism. Following the election Somalis may now receive passports. And they may also be deported. Go, democracy, go!

C-SPAN on Iran this evening, one of the panelists fucking referred to the prime state of affairs as open markets before he mentioned democracy. In answering a question on what U.S. leadership thinks, he invoked Wolfowitz before our dear pres. FUCK! A market is no longer (if ever) a fucking means. The rich, we get richer and richer, while we gesture as if our primary aim is to serve our children.
And then all that money spent on the fucking inaugural balls while millions around the world need aid. That's capitalism, baby. I dare you.
