- Drove to Austin TX to purchase a hard top
I drove to Austin and purchased a hard top for the Miata today. I know that I paid way too much for this top, but my paranoia about the tear in my soft top was strong enough to make the purchase worth it. The top is not an OEM top like I had hoped it would be and it's got some mild wear-and-tear, but it is in fairly good condition overall. The top is a SnugTop brand aftermarket top and has heated rear glass (defroster), headliner, and came with the side latch strikers and a dubious hard top storage cart. It is white like the car, but it is a slightly lighter/cooler white than the '97 Chaste White and you can tell that it's slightly off when viewed in direct sunlight. My only real concern is that the weatherstripping on the passenger side window is a bit worn and there seems to be a small gap along the top edge. It appears as though one of the previous owners had a window that wasn't aligned properly and pushed the weatherstripping inward over time. I may have to pull the weatherstripping and glue it back in place but farther outboard, or perhaps poke a hole in it from the inside and spray some expanding foam in there to bring the original shape back to it. You can tell that it is not up to the same level of quality that the OEM top on the 93 is, but if I can get the weatherstripping issue sorted out, then it should work sufficiently for a while.
SnugTop? Potential Fail. (But I'm going to give a shot anyway.)
