2011.09.27 - Steering Wheel Airbag Defeat (Repair)
- Removed steering wheel hub and put new insulation on airbag wires
I'd noticed that the airbag light will briefly blink on occasion and it seemed to be getting more frequent, so I removed the steering wheel and hub. Just as I had suspected, the wires for the airbag defeat circuit had been rubbing on the steering column trim cover and had worn through the electrical tape that I had wrapped them in. I re-wrapped them and put heatshrink around them, as well as trying to position them more carefully this time. While I had things apart, I also cleaned up the insulation and applied heatshrink to the wires for the horn button.
