Watching Stephen Colbert poke fun at Glenn Beck is great, since they're both pretty awesome. (I just wish Colbert would come up with something a little more creative than "Beck is crazy.") Colbert's parody of Beck's doomsday scenario program was easily his funniest episode ever, made even more so by his use of Stephen Moore, a regular Beck guest. (The bit about all our cars being Decepticons? Comedy gold. And I love how he saved the most unrealistic scenario for last.)
Does Colbert knows that by focusing so much on Beck, he's giving the him free publicity? Not that that's a bad thing. Despite being only a mild Libertarian (he's pro-war and anti-drug), Beck's easily the best pundit on the air right now. How can you not love a guy who regularly invites Penn Jillett and Ron Paul to share their views with a national audience?
And Beck is very much in on the joke. After Colbert told him to "turn up the crazy juice and rip off the nob," Beck replied, "Oh, trust me, I am." It's even more fun when the target of the satire can giggle along. (Unlike some other left and right-wing pundits I could name.)
I look forward to greater synergy between these two pillars of media.
