If you are going to use the internet to get on chat sites, even if you have limited time to spend online, don't be an aloof douchebag.  If someone messages you and you aren't interested in them, you could at least say "thanks for the message, I am rarely online and replies may be delayed" as a way to acknowledge their existence without saying "and ( Read more... )

Do you have a request in your profile for people to be civil (or articulate)? I have something to that effect so I consider that fair warning. Otherwise I can at least say "thanks" to a compliment or "howdy" to a greeting.

Plenty of fodder for conversation in my profile. If they say 'Hi', or really anything but horribly mangled words I pretty much always respond. But if I'm not worth the effort to type a couple of extra letters (heck, spell it wrong, but at least try to spell it), they're usually not worth the effort to converse with, if that makes sense.
