I seem to pass most of my leisure time reading newspapers and magazines in my first month of delhi. magazine stands, there are tonnes. there has been an issue of Cosmopolitan (Indian edition) wrapped in plastic with a little gift roughly the size of a pocket size tissue packet. Makes sense that tissues could be included as a little gift: India's disposable white paper products are not quite where North America's are at. Here, I fear blowing my nose too hard lest my mucous rips through the tissue. Napkins and such are always *this close* to shreds. My suitcase had more than space taken up by related products: eyelid cleanser pads, cotton pads, maxi pads, tampons etc.
So, anyways, for about the first two weeks or so, I kept thinking that Cosmo was giving away tissue with the cheeky brand name of "Panty Smart". Weird, I thought. Of course, I have this problem where I skim things and the resulting messages always end up more provocative than reality: the latest one was "How cleavage changed my life" instead of "How exercise changed my life". Panty Smart is actually "Party Smart". Which is still maybe an OK name for pocket size tissues. Which it isn't. Party Smart is a box containing a few pills that help you deal with the ill effects of drinking. It is some kind of liver medicine. Available for free with Cosmopolitan magazine. Pretty rockin' (reminds me of those "diet pills" which backpackers can get from Thailand during the full moon parties to maintain a high energy level. I was a bit surprised, but I thought I had fully understood. A week later, I see it again and it is also labelled as "Ayurvedic medicine". So, it's a puzzle to put together: read the sexed up Cosmopolitan, get drunk and get recovered, and rely on Ayurveda to save yourself from yr partying ways. I think the Ayurvedic label is probably less interesting than that - products from Vick's Vaporub to Himilaya face cream are also labelled as Ayurvedic medicine which is somehow related to some tax/$ loophole.
