B99

5.3 Kicks

I laughed a lot at this episode, and the balance between silly and disturbing, as Jake and Rosa returned to their jobs and lives after a while in prison. Jake has grown - the running five thing to the contrary. And Rosa broke up with Pimento!? That’s…very healthy.

5.4 Hellaveen

EEEEE! I mean, I’d got spoiled that Jake and Amy would get engaged, but I still didn’t see it coming - I was expecting Gina to return somehow, even if ‘that’s not Chelsea Peretti, but sure the writers would have Gina’s voice down’ turned into one of the many attempts to win the heist. It was all ridiculously entertaining, how seriously they took it and planned it and Explained It All as they went on. And the flashbacks - the terrible wigs for Santiago and Peralta were the best.

But after the Rosa/Pimento break-up, and for all the reasons Jake/Amy work, shown in this episode - and bless the actors for accessing sincerity - it was brill.

Also, CHEDDAR! Who has a fake double, like Boyle.

Will losing $8,000 make the wedding cheaper?

5.5 Bad Beat

Oh, Charles, given everything Jake did to propose to Amy and that there’s literally no other competitor for best man, how was it not going to go down like that? I’m glad they sorted out toilet rules for Rosa’s competition with Hitchcock and Scully, Fumero’s reaction shots got a work-out with the Boyle’s murder truck idea, but it was mainly about Holt and poker and a sense of settling in to enjoy the characters.

Possibly my favourite part was Rosa pushing herself around in her chair in the background of one of Santiago and Boyle’s scenes. Mad logic all round :) and the handling of Holt’s addiction was a bit touching underneath the gambling on children’s talent competitions and learning about Terry’s adventures in food addiction. I did not spot the tell.

5.6 The Venue

The wedding arrangement montage was spot on, and I was amused, by Holt’s disdain for Terry's antics, but I also noticed when some of the actors (okay, Stephanie Beatriz) came close to cracking up, so I don’t have much to say about this episode.

So I'm all caught up, but I'm not sure of my plans for tonight and my record of remembering to watch the show live this season is about as bad as it ever is. Also, it's not the worst idea to have this in reserve for after Ordeal by Innocence.
