Recs!

Just got burned by an abandoned WIP. Grr. No abandoned WIPs are included below.

The Bourne franchise

You Are Coming Down With Me: dsudis (Jason/Marie, set before Supremacy but contains spoilers for it)

Marie, the civilian, asks Jason something he hasn't considered before. Lovely, heartbreaking and believable.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The Bet: myrifique (Jake/Amy, early season 1)

An amusing take on Jake and Amy's bet from the precinct's perspective; this fic gets better and better.

Dredd

lay low: khayr

A good vignette (snippet, even) of Dredd-Anderson interaction on the job, although it leaves you wanting more.

Firefly

I Spy: agent_rouka (Mal, Inara/Simon)

Good job of conveying Mal’s feelings and the why of Inara/Simon from his POV.

He's good at silent surprise. Has had practice.

War and the like.

Gravity

Worthy of Survival: cupidsbow (teen)

I like how this vid shows the sweeping and personal aspects of what happens to Ryan.

The Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen-Time:djcprod

This vid is a bruising, emotive character study of Katniss from The Hunger Games through to Catching Fire.

Jupiter Ascending

Life in the Apiary: wanteringaesthetic (Kiza, Stinger, pre-movie gen)

This is a lovely portrait of Kiza and Stinger's relationship. I've adopted it as my canon for them, and it makes me sad that there'll be no sequel for the Apinis' sake, not just my own.

Bright Star: Kuwdora (Jupiter/Caine)

The choice of music was inspired and the whole vid got me smiling in the joyful way that the film did. Brilliant.

The Man from UNCLE (2015)

some things never sleep: adolescentsoul (Gaby/Illya, teen, long)

I wanted fic like this so much after seeing the movie, and I am so delighted to come across it done so well. Gaby is fierce and complex, damaged and vivid, and I love how things develop between her and Illya and the role Solo plays. I love that it's a partnership of three. Set time aside and enjoy this.

MCU

The War Was in Color: settiai (Captain America; Avengers, Steve-centric)

Such a great vid about soldier!Steve

MCU (Iron Man)/Batman: the Animated Series

You ain't no lover but you ain't no dancer: musesfool (Pepper POV, Pepper/Tony ER, Bruce W, Alfred)

I really enjoyed spending time with Pepper in this situation. There's an infectious frisson to bringing the Marvel and DC universes together.

I Bet His Mama Never Told Him Why: circ_bamboo (Natasha/Steve ficlet, I'd rate it a teen for language)

It's not going to work out.

This is charming (for all that that isn't a word you'd throw Natasha's direction).

Two Lies and A Bit of Truth: igrockspock (post-Avengers, Maria-centric, Maria/Steve)

I enjoyed this portrait of Maria (and her connection with Steve) a lot, and I like the balance in how the story is told.

Mulan (Disney)

Versal and Marginalia: Estiraven (Fa Mulan/Li Shang)

A more bittersweet and grounded coda to the film - the use of dialogue is really telling.

Once Upon a Time

Count the Stones: Random Battlecry (Rumpelstiltskin/Belle, spoilers for 1.12)

I really like everything that's going on in this fic, which focuses on Rumpelstiltskin's reactions to having Belle around in his castle.

Revenge

does joe bring flowers to marilyn’s grave: paperclipbitch (gen, teen, spoilers for everything)

Fabulous expansion of canon to tell Louise’s story.

Louise misses the days when she had allies in this family, not just closed doors and white pills and a brain where everything ebbs and flows around in whatever order it chooses, until she picks a train of thought at random and leaps on it.

Smallville

Siege: nindulgence (Chloe, Lex futurefic with some Chlex)

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

This is such a satisfying story (and yet I could stand to read more about this future), focusing on Chloe and Lex, how they are both equally matched and how they're not, with delicious interplay. I really liked how deftly their history and the exposition was revealed, and it's fascinating that it's about their relationships with Metropolis and with Clark/Superman too.

Sherlock

The Game is On: starrylizard

Dramatic and bombastic vidlet, 'promo style' of season 1 Sherlock, which is apt given the music and subject.

(I am too lazy, frankly, to reorder Smallville and Sherlock.)
