Agents of SHIELD 2.14 Love in the Time of Hydra

Yeah, it’s been a while since we saw Agent 33 and Ward. If we must (remember, I missed her big episode.) She’s basically amnesiac Mystique, isn’t she? Seems less stable than Ward, but don’t trust him, love. He’s manipulating you in plain sight. (Although I appreciated him not letting Agent 33 seduce him with Skye’s face.)

More of everyone at SHIELD failing to look after and help poor Skye. It feels like they just don’t have the coping mechanisms.

Lots of anvils about Bahrain. (Or B.A.H.R.A.I.N. as it may turn out to be.)

I quite enjoyed Hunter meeting the Real Continuity SHIELD. His lack of history with SHIELD and attitude towards authority plus what we've seen of him with SHIELD came together in interesting ways. I was amused by the nods to the grumbles about the Coulson we all loved in the movies having become the new Fury for the TV show. But less amused at the anti-alien stuff. I am the last person to say Coulson is always right, but aliens = cool. I mean, aliens should be taken on their own merits, especially when most of them seem to have better tech.

Simmonds disapproving of Coulson’s actions means less than it used to. I totally agreed with Fitz about her having changed the most because she was afraid.

Meanwhile, more father figure-and-child bonding between Coulson and Skye. Cue a new bit of canon about Steve. And leaving her there with minimal contact is going to help how? Yeah, you mishandled that.

The scene between Bobbi and Hunter was fun, knowing they’re going to get a spin-off. Of course, whether that will ever appear on British screens when Agent Carter has yet to is another matter. But plenty of angst and chemistry between them. (I really am chuffed for Palicki in particular.)

Good for May and Coulson for not believing Mac. The Real Continuity SHIELD seems about as rubbish as the normal one and certainly riven with internal strife. Although, having said that, if you’d told me at this point with the last season that I’d care so much about May, Skye, Coulson in the context of both of them, Fitz and two characters I’d be yet to meet and side-eyeing Simmonds severely, I’d be surprised. I’m not as invested as some (while I feel I’m looking forward more to Age of Ultron than people who are more invested in the MCU are?)

Atlantis 2.8 The Madness of Hercules

Well, it featured Hercules being stupid, Jason being shirtless and Pythagoras running, for old times’ sake.

I was wondering about there being a replacement Oracle. Of course her name’s Cassandra. But it does explain the priest’s behaviour and makes Pasiphae’s plotting appear more and more impressive.

The question was whether Ariadne could step up and be a Queen. She did a decent job of balancing duty with love. Jason was understandably puppyish in his cell, and the Jason/Ariadne played along nicely with the Hercules/Medusa - or would have if I wasn’t feeling all bitter about what they did to a character I really liked. And the writing of the romances has never been this show’s strength. So, I know there was a whole friendship versus romantic love thing going on, with all of Hercules's swithering versus crying!Pythagoras and controlled-in-public!Ariadne, but it didn't work anywhere near as well as it should.

But if they're going to side-step the fact that Medusa chose to kill someone (under the duress of raising her curse)...well, at least I won't have to put up with it for long.
