OUAT 2.03 Lady of the Lake
Up until the end, I would have sid that my favourite bit, and it probably still was, really, was Snow hanging out with Ruth, Charming’s dying mother, and seeing the good mother figure she’d been denied, just as she was dealing with being denied motherhood. Given that Cora was back in her future - and Snow the adult’s response to her was very much informed by her past betrayal - I wonder if they met betweentimes. I’d love to see Snow around for future Cora and Regina face-offs. But then Emma’s speech about never having put someone put her first (ie a parent in her life) and acknowledging that her mother was there made my tear ducts start up, just a little.
Until then, I had been both amused and touched by the Emma-Snow dynamics. It’s so ridiculously weird that both these women of roughly the same age are mother and daughter who have only recently been reconciled, but knew each other, sort of, before. Emma is also dealing with the fact that her mother is Snow White, not Mary Margaret, and Snow White is awesome, while Emma’s awesomeness is somewhat nullified by not knowing the rules of this world. Although I was still amused by her stripping off to a vest to give her leather jacket to Aurora. The dynamics of that quartette are pretty interesting.
There was also stuff about parenthood more generally, although I’m still not sure about David’s parenting instincts - sword fighting is partially code for spending time with you, dude. Henry hanging out in Emma’s car was sad, but his Operation Titles was amusing. Ahahahah Jim Robinson is back in Storybrooke and he’s probably still bitter. Grace, Jefferson is not the most stable!? His developing subplot, while fitting in to the overall theme, reminds me that everything’s a bit scattered. We’re probably going to see more returning faces in Storybrooke, more flashbacks (including Red proving why everyone should listen to her) fitting in with Storybrooke and the remnants of the Enchanted Forest. Don’t know if that’s always going to come off.
Oh, and Henry walking around Regina’s vault with no idea of the danger he was in!
(While writing this up, I kept on having to correct myself after typing Snot for Snow.)
Revenge 2.16 Illumination
Alas, no more happy Emily-Nolan-Jack times as Jack, rightly, still thinks Nolan is lying through his teeth. So the only people he can trust are Declan, baby Carl and random strangers on docks. That makes me sad.
Eli is an intriguing addition. I like the actor and the character really is a wild card, whom Emily-Amanda mishandled.
I like Aiden’s house although the visual of Emily staying at home as he went off to business made me roll my eyes almost as Nolan. I will say one nice thing about Nolan’s wardrobe, for once, though - I liked the cravat.
The Falcon is a HILARIOUS enemy to set up.
On the whole, I’m pleased that we got to see Goth arsonist moppet!Amanda.
