I’m almost wavering on continuing to watch Homeland. I do think it’s slightly over-rated, and if I could, I would cherry-pick the bits that interest me, (oh, watching it on 4OD, might do it. I know there's a danger of my losing some stuff, but I still don't think that the plot is that complicated as yet.) Some parts of the expansion in this second episode after the establishing pilot were interesting, some of them made me wish this was made for network TV, and
certainly the doubt was inserted into our minds about whether what we saw of Brody’s time in captivity was always a flashback or sometimes a hallucination/nightmare. I still think the question isn’t whether he’s turned or not or whether Carey/Carrie/Claire Danes’s character is wrong, but whether he’ll carry out his mission. So far, I think Damien Lewis is toe-to-toe with Danes in the acting stakes. Oh, and I thought the opening credits were brave, apart from being deliberately offputting, by using dialogue, but it didn’t work with a ‘previously’ section.
Having said that, I should admit that I'm now watching The Lying Game on purpose. I caught it by accident, gawped, decided to watch an episode through, and it happened again last night. Why? Well, there's a lot of wish fulfillment going on, there's the mystery of it all, Adrian Pasdar's character is seriously disturbing, and I don't know why he isn't a permanent cast member, because apart from the twins, he's the most dynamic character. I really want to feed all the tiny, frail looking women and girls, though. But it's colourful entertainment and I have NO expectations (eg of all the mysteries they have set and are setting in train being resolved decently) other than for that to continue.
