The Good Wife 3.07

Didn't have the time to post this before my weekend of internetless napping and reading. I'll have to catch up on The Mentalist and Castle later on this week too.

I thought this was the show firing on all cylinders, basically. The ending with the bad and unfortunately cheesy sexual harassment video had me giggling, which I needed having been so tense throughout the episode. And I think that’s why Alicia’s quirky (but FIERCE) lawyer and Cupcake! Treasury official worked - while watching them, I was aware that they were quirky and surprised that that wasn’t annoying me more. In a flatter episode, they would have.

So many motivations! Alicia feeling dropped by the firm. Peter’s choice" He IS putting himself on the higher moral ground - Will was the one who named Alicia. And oh, Will, although you really, really want to punch Peter, I really, really want you to face off in court more. The fact the firm has Bishop on their books still haunting them. Diane finding out about Will and Alicia and how that played into what she decided and did from that point on. I wish she'd decided not to wear that cream trouser suit, though.

The one dodgy bit for me was Caitlin just happening to be around for Will to use as a defensive shield against Cary and Dana. I am trying to think of it as them showing her being more at ease with/closer to him than Diane, but ‘just happening to be around’? Eh.

BUT I loved the dramatisation of the transcripts; I thought it really worked and added freshness to something we’ve oft seen before in legal thrillers. I enjoyed the sarky judge and the return of Glenn Childs - although in the break, I was racking my brains to try to remember where he stood and how he felt about everyone. However, I have to say that the show was kind about reminding us of where various characters who were back after a while stood, and that was helpful, because there were so many callbacks - like Grace’s renewed interest in Christianity, and if they’re going to give her a Thing about divorce, that does promise to be a fruitful thread.
