Well, not really, because my sleep would have to cover twice or more the usual activity. And this is mainly because I really didn't want to be at work yesterday morning. Instead I wanted to be at home reading Dawson's Creek fanfic, preferably, well, I'd know what I liked when I saw it. Oh, Pacey.. I got snookered into watching Classic!epsiodes (season 1's Scream wink and nod a thon and the Pageant episode). Dawson's Creeek: it's a bit like panto {

one of the few happy making things I read in the paper yesterday, Simon Callow on being a panto villain] in that you shout at certain bits. I'm okay with the show's status in my life.
I have a few minutes to express this, but, in realising that a slew of shows I watch avidly, if not fannishly, are coming back in January/the new year (CSI, ER, Supernatural The O.C, ad Heroes is coming and I'm am very geeked out by that), I'm expecting my fannish focus to change come January. Right now is overwritten by Christmas stuff (both offline and on, I find myself compiling a scattershot list of Christmas stories appearing on my flist from all over to read at some juncture). But I've been catching up on specific meta (the MsScribe revelations of June and all its attendant discussions, well, most of 'em), mainly reading Firefly fic, with random secondary readings (skipping from Buffyfic to crossover pairings.) And I wonder how much that's ruled by no current live canon. (I will get around to watching the Alias DVDs and that might or might not lead to further fic. And there's always Sky High, even if the fandom is a bit like pre powered up Will). The initial flurry over Dead Like Me subsided (due to the timeslot, I haven't watched it), and I find myself watching either shows I like a lot, but don't have much to say about, or shows I like to rant about. There's a lot of stuff (canon-specific discussions or take offs) that I'll read, but don't find myself wanting to plunge into the canon. I'm used to thinking of myself as cut off from the excitement of being in a live canon, because I'm in the UK, six months after the discussion, and that my fannishness is lead by something else. But here I am, having been nestling in snugly into the Simon/Inara section of Firefly when it comes to reading fic - a fandom that is probably dead, a subsection of fandom that is small, and finding myself thinking that in January, depending on canon, I'll be into something else.
I blame ER - it was a show I'd watched for years and then Neela/Ray hit me (for the fuller version of events, see the ER tag). And I was almost in synch with the heart of that ship by the end of season 12. That and Supernatural has brought me two OTPs. The O.C. has brought me much fic, and the show has brought me uneven pleasures. I feel like I'm in a holding pattern, of sorts, while at the same time skedaddling around trying to do a thousand and one things in far too little time. Every year, I say I'll plan better. I don't.
(I haven't reread this. Does it make sense?)
