I caught the repeat of The X-Factor from the Mc Donald brothers' feedback on. From what I saw of the clip of everyone, it seems that I also missed all the people who sang the Abba songs straight. A swing version of Waterloo? Simon lost so many points for that alone. I know that Ray appeals to precisely the same soft-hearted audience that the brothers do (it helped that I didn't actually hear them sing, but I find the elder (?) blond brother's protective behaviour around the other endearing), but I've gone past the point of no return with Little Eddie Munster. Also, like Ashley, he talked to much when he got the chance.

On Ashley leaving, well, I thought the lack of confidence showed, the song was too big for him, too old for him and certainly too downbeat when it came to a face-off with Robert (who I enjoyed). Although I think he is beyond lame, I would like to play Louis Walsh in poker. Even though I do not know how to play poker. The faux tension is easy to read.

Overall, I think that Ashley is better than Nikitta and Ray, but he should have been able to sing last week's song properly, if he'd done so, he'd have been better this week. (Ironically, Kerry would have done better with this song.) His attitude - partly because of his youth - has been a problem. And the thing is, you can't really plead ignorance of what the X-Factor is by this point.

I thought having Bjorn from Abba and the cast and crew of Mama Mia! worked better than the old fogey singers trying to be upbeat than we've had. What's the theme next week? No-one seems to know.

It's something of a relief to watch the show with a strapline telling us that the voting lines are closed.

I would have watched the Dead Like Me repeat if it had been on at 10, but it was on at 11, because schedulers are evil. Find a slot. Stick to it. It helps.
