MR OLLIVANDER: Cuuurious.

Went away for the weekend, am now back. Will wait until tomorrow to write a mammoth post about the TV watching and Empire reading I did. In the meantime, I got an e-mail from a guy called Joe inviting me to join MyFandoms.com, which seems to be a place for posting fic, art, pics etc. It's apparently in beta stage (certainly, it doesn't seem to have much content or many members when I went to have a look). The e-mail itself is annoyingly full of exclamation marks, which adds to a tone that irks me a bit. 'Joe' says he's a real person, which I don't much doubt, but he sounds like, well, see for yourselves...

Later in the fall, we’ll be conducting a fan fiction contest that will be judged by several prominent Hollywood producers, directors, and writers. This is your chance to get YOUR fan fiction read by people who create and make TV shows and movies! By being among the first to add their fan fiction to the site, you are guaranteeing yourself maximum exposure to every member who comes behind you. The more eyes reading your stories, the more likely you are to be “discovered!”

and I'm just thinking how far off the mark this feels. The e-mail says that the site is for fans, but it feels weird in terms of who they think I should think the audience for my fic should be is or even why I'm writing. Is this an overflow of the events (particularly a competions) mentioned in the WSJ? How can that be good - to try to do this on a panfandom scale? I'm presuming that they got my info off fanfiction.net (the listed fandoms for the fic seem similar).

Has anyone else heard anything about this?
