The further adventures of Harry and co.

Spooks 5.03. I'd been told it was a corker, and yesh indeedy. The moment where Adam was hesitating as to whether or not to order the shooting of the suspected man carrying the detonator had me on the edge of my seat, nails biting into my hand at the reference to the De Menzies shooting. That was the dramatic highlight - that they'd go there - to a really taut episode.

Jo was mostly competent! So was Zaf - about time that they handled using him to try to get into an Islamic extremist terrorist cell. Thought the look at race was interesting and added layers to the look at 7/7 and terrorism, all the terrorists were British born, weren't they? And when I think about it, making the Arms dealer South African added anther layer. Ros is a bit of a bitch (Jo was right, she handled Lee poorly.) That may lead interesting places. There's a part of me that dreads if Jenny the nanny turns out to be a spy, because Ruth ought to have vetted her thoroughly.

Oh, Ruth. Obviously loved the Harry/Ruth and everyone knowing about it as a counterpoint to the other plot. I assume that it's something to do with her step(?) brother that made react the way that she did, because if she'd had a sense of perspective, she'd have seen that Malcolm was just being nice if a little insensitive, and nobody was laughing anyway. Nt really. And I loved the acting in the H/R scenes, because all the characters' feelings were bubbling under the surface, but they were happy and EEEE! (I feel I deserve a bit of OTP development here seeing as WITB has gone kerflooey). At least neither of them got injured. And I'm hopeful that Ruth's issues will be dealt with because Harry went far enough to take steps to pursue her, and while he's obviously long cared, that's something new. And again, nice counterpoint with Mustapha-Michael/Lee's relationship.

I thought it was a really good ep: it held together much better than the last two with the actual spy!stuff being cool, the intrigues and counter-intrigues fitting together well, plot complemented by the emotional drive and there was a continuing feeling of the team at work - Jo and Adam enjoying getting to play spies, etc etc. I know I tend to ignore the Adam-focus, but I do that with Spooks, I did it in the Tom days too.

I still think there should be a crossover with(Colin), Malcolm and Alias's Marshall in the universe.

I watched Bringing Up Baby last night. I had hoped to go to the flicks to see a comedy, but it got too late and then I remembered I had this and it was fab. I love screwball when it's done as exqsuisitely as this - Cary Grant's pratfalls are perfect - I was strongly reminded of Press Gang by the dialogue and the energetic chaos, because my brain likes making that connection. And I love that it's all about Susan's pursuit of David.
