16 'Meh House'

Why am I watching this again? Oh yeah, Jensen Ackles is hot and talented. I may well be irked because the other ghostbusters mentioned Buffy, which nullifies my crossover OTP until I find a way to get over it. (Dean never head them, maybe they were referring to Buffy as an urban myth rather than a character from a TV show). Also, said characters were really lame, lamer than the Trio at their lamest if we're inviting Buffy comparisons. I mean the Lord...of the Rings ejaculation!? Too generalist a 'geekz and nerdlings' target. Or are they trying to make the fanboys of the original Hell House and every other 70s horror movie homage feel better by mocking fantasy geeks? As with Bones, I thin that it's a slight case of biting the hand that feeds you, myself.

There were a couple of things that made me laugh, but the escalating pranks...not so much. I was sulky with the brothers for acting all superior to 'the professionals' but failing to go to the basement, the epicentre of the problem, on their first pass to the house. It was too dark to see what was going on, the house looked really familiar (do they redress the same place every other week?) and everything was signposted too obviously to be particularly scary. (Dean's worst nightmare would be Rats on a Plane...coming soon to a screen near you, starring Lemuel S. Jackson.)

And so this week was Sam's turn to pop out of the shower. Considering that they drive around the States most of their lives, Sam and Dean are AMAZINGLY ripped. I mean, five or ten minutes of runnng, scuffling and shooting beasties isn't really regular excercise, is it? That thought was brought to you by wondering how they pick up cultural references when their life seems to involve of going from motel to library to bar to graveyard. Which says something about how engaging what is actually happening on the show is.

What has been making me chirpy, though, is Sky High.. I hope to have some writings up about it soon - so that I can clear the decks, mentally, for X-Men (and won't those comparisons be interesting to make!?) For now, here's a bunch of interviews with the cast - I think they're all from one day of group interviews, so there's some repetition. Michael Angarano gets bonus points for his answer to favourite superhero movie and what power he'd have, Danielle Panabaker and Mary Elizabeth Winstead sound like professional young actresses (ie earnest) and Steven Strait sounds like such a model-actor-whatever (though again, he gets bonus points for influential superhero and incredible casting story.) Most interesting is what Kurt Russell says about the direction of the film and his influence. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. Oh, except I really wish there had been more extras on the DVD.
