Challenge fic: an Untitled Nathan drabble

May 06, 2008 12:39

Title: Untitled
Characters: Nathan Brubaker
Rating: Pg-13
Word Count: 204
Summary: For the April 2008 p_f challenge, Nathan decides to do something despite his wife’s protests.

Nathan took a cleansing breath as he sat down behind one of the many tables in the room. He hadn’t told Michelle where he was going this morning, since she would be pissed. He didn’t understand why she was so upset. Nathan just wanted to be able to help people more, and not be chained to the law office.

Michelle was probably hoping that he failed the exam. She didn’t seem to ever want him to succeed in anything that didn’t match the track she thought he should be on. He didn’t understand it, as he had been supportive of everything she had set out to accomplish. He thought she could at least pretend to be supportive and not call his ideas stupid outright.

An uniformed officer walked in the room. He went straight to the front of the classroom. “Welcome everyone. Thank you for participating in the Atlanta Police Academy written exam. We will be starting in just a few seconds, so I hope everyone is prepared.”

Nathan smiled to himself. He had been studying for this for months. He was sure that he was going to get one of the top scores. Michelle would hopefully not disregard his dreams so easily then.
