I'm not sure how much this might help, but I went ahead and created a sort of Layton color swatch for you so you can compare colors. I pulled the main colors from a selection of the characters so you can see how the palettes work together:



You can likely tell who's who, but just in case it goes (top to bottom): Layton, Remi, Luke, Flora, Don Paolo, Chelmey. They seem like a good range of various character colors that are representative of Layton-verse.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the Laytonverse is primarily desaturated earth tones. Muted colors with a lot of warmth -- shadows tend towards warmer tones (vs. cool shadows) such as reds, tans, browns. You can't go wrong with deep, warm browns and chocolatey-tones. Good accents for these types of colors are reds, blues, tans, creams, etc. As long as the colors you choose aren't CLASHINGLY BRIGHT (fire engine red, electric blue, neon yellow, etc.), you should be able to get a pretty good palette going on.
