Layton on WikiaWikipedia on Professor Layton Personality:
Layton seems to be the quintessential British gentleman. Always polite, calm, even-tempered, and a love for tea, nothing seems to faze this professor's mild-mannered personality. But, like every good puzzle, there is more to Layton than meets the eye.
There is stark ingenuity in the professor, that usually manifests itself through his ability to logic out even through the most complex conundrums and mysteries. As the professor says, "Every puzzle has a solution" and Layton won't rest until every mystery is resolved. This highlights another facet of Layton's personality: his steadfast nature. Few things deter him once the professor has decided on something. He'll approach every problem from every angle, for he never believes in letting things go unsolved.
Sometimes, this may make him a little meddlesome. He truly likes to help people when they have a problem, owning this to his belief that "a true gentleman always helps those in need." But he also has a habit of poking his nose into whatever mystery arises. And his "gentleman code" may sometimes clash with a modern setting, especially regarding some of his views on women. He is a complete gentleman to a lady, but his habit of pushing Flora away from danger or leaving her home while Luke and him explore can seem somewhat demeaning. Of course, he means it all in good faith as he sees it as a way to protect her.
He is friendly and polite to anyone he meets, even if that someone is rude back to him or a villain. Rarely does he ever show aggression and isn't an intimidating figure, save if someone he knows is being threatened.
But, Layton has more to his disposal than just his sharp wit. He is a skilled fencer and is quick on his feet, ready to run when the moment calls for it. Luke notes that the Professor's intuition is hardly wrong, especially when concerning danger. He won't hesitate to protect someone even when danger to himself could be likely. This holds especially true to Luke and Flora. If anyone would ever want to push the rare berserk button this professor has, it would be to endanger the children. Layton, while hesitant to do harm normally, would be a force to be reckoned with.
The other thing he prizes is his top-hat. He built the Laytonmobile just so he wouldn't have to take it off. It is a special memento to him and one of the few things he absolutely refuses to to do, if someone were to request it, is to take it off.
Powers & Abilities: Layton has no supernatural ability to speak of. He is, however, very perceptive and well-read. He also has considerable fencing skill and is quite athletic for someone his age.
What items will they be bringing with them to Discedo? Just the clothes on his back~.

Layton watched the screen of the communicator black out as he pressed a button. He isn't exactly sure what he has done, but it seemed to have turn the device off. Satisfied that he got all he could glean from the device for now, Layton pockets it in his coat. What was more pressing to the professor was how he came to be at such a place.
Derelict didn't describe his surroundings well. Derelict was the Future London Clive had tried to trick him with. No, this place was almost in ruins. Had another attack happened? Or--?
Layton began walking. He can think on the way. Somehow, his intuition told him that the place was teeming with life despite it's abandoned appearance. And that life didn't feel friendly at all.
His thoughts led back to his mysterious appearance in the city. A small musing began to worm its way to his head. Was it time travel? Claire had proved such a thing was possible. The idea that his feet could be crunching over the ashes of his beloved hometown caused a hard grimace to form over the professor's face. However, the buildings didn't seem to be too familiar, yet, and he admitted to himself that it was still too soon to make such an observation.
For now, he'll have to go and uncover some information, and get to the bottom of this most curious mystery.
Just as Layton had found what could have been his first clue, a street sign, a small noise rang from his pocket. It was tinny, like a hint coin hitting pavement.
"Now, who could that be? I hope they have some answers for this most puzzling predicament I'm in."

Claire, wait! [The video feed opens to the view of green sneakers (Layton having accidentally kicked the device laying on the ground and causing it to start), and the sound of a clipped, British accent. However, to those that know Layton, those two words, breaking in tone, sound very unlike the composed professor. The shoes shuffle back, as Layton gets a view of his surroundings.] What in the world--?
[A lengthy pause.] Another incomprehensible twist.
I must... [Layton takes a deep breath, to re-steady his voice.] I must maintain my composure. There is an answer to this mystery. ...Ah! If I am here, then did they-- [Layton steps forward and his foot bumps against the device. This time he notices it.] What is this? [A shadow passes over the feed as Layton bends over to pick it up. He holds it up and now the professor from the shoulder up is visible. He take off a note on the backside of the communicator. He eyes it critically.] Use me? Curious, very curious. A little more detail might be necessary.
Well, what use can this device have? [...] I presume it might be for communication, judging that it looks like some kind of recording device. [Layton clears his voice before speaking again.]
My name is Hershel Layton and I'm a Professor at Gressenheller University in London. I'm unsure as to why I was taken here or how, for that matter. I can get to the bottom of that later. My real concerns lies in those that might have been taken with me. If anyone knows of or seen a boy named Luke and--- [He almost says Claire's name but pushes down the urge with another deep breath. She's gone, Hershel, you need to focus on the present.]---anyone else from London, I would be deeply grateful if you told me. If it's possible, I'd like to get a message down to my office at Gressenheller as well.
It's for Flora Reinhold. If you could tell her I'm terribly sorry for being late [again], that would be helpful. I don't want to worry her too much, as I expect I'll be held up for a while. [With a small smile, Layton manages to find the button that cuts the feed.]

You're a wizard, Professah. Fencing lessons; pipe not included. Welcome to the Facility. Val, I have a question for you. How can I do puzzles without a brain? The lunch special is very special, indeed.
