The Pipers Pipe in the Regency Period!
So, first of all, I just watched Mansfield Park.
I purposefully did not read the novel beforehand, because I know full well how disappointing and flat Austen movies often become when compared with the original work. I have no idea who Fanny Price is supposed to be or how she's supposed to act, which left me free to love this version.
Did I love it? Well. It was cute. I kind of want to make a tag called Blake Ritson's eyes, because my god he is SUCH A PUPPY. The plot jumped all over the place and kind of moved too quickly for me to figure out where I stood with the characters, but it was overall an enjoyable experience. Mostly, I was terrified that it would turn out to be another Shadow of the North. Thank god, that was not the case. Bills should always be allowed to smile and laugh and be shy and be cute. So I can definitely say movie!Fanny > movie!Sally. Like to a million degrees. But ultimately, if I ever rewatch this, I'll just skip to the Billie being cute bits, and ignore the rest.
Day 19: Favorite Badass Moment
As if there could ever be anything-- in the history of Doctor Who, or television, or love-- more badass than Bad fucking Wolf. I've said it before, and I've quoted Jacob before, but one more time can't hurt:
Rose -- more Rose than True-Blue God for a sec -- looks down at him with all the love in the world: "I want you safe." The Doctor's shocked. Nobody's ever been in a position to give him that before. There are tears on her cheeks. "My Doctor," she says sweetly, intensely. "Protected from the false God." It's love, not just cold knowing. I like sad songs, like, "all the umbrellas in London could not stop this rain," because they make you ask the opposite question: What if all the umbrellas in London actually were over your head? Wouldn't you feel safe then?
Day 20: Favorite Quote About Bills
Matt Smith: "Cos Bills-- it was so weird, actually, Kaz, cos Bills had this whole long line of people-- d'you remember?"
Chris Evans: "D'you need me to explain who Bills is? That you--?"
Matt: "Billie Piper, ah, who's a mate of mine--"
Chris: "Ex-wife of mine, by the way."
Matt: "Yeah, I know!"
Chris: "So, I win there. High five?" [they high five]
And Chris goes on to allude that he was totally jealous of Matt, because Bills invited him down and Matt's, y'know. Matt.
It's the whole casual, no-shame, let's-high-five-over-both-having-totally-shagged-her mentality that I kind of adore, and only makes sense in relation to Bills. If it were anyone else, I'd be kind of appalled at the chauvinistic bent of it all, but idk. With them it's all just a bit of a laugh. And the rest of the interview is completely adorable as well. Because Matt's in love with Karen and she has no fucking idea.
