Right on. I may still be cynical about what the next four years may hold, but I'm significantly happier than I was with Palin. Yes. When I voted, I made my decision on the basis of a deep-seated fear of Palin. She's a John Wayne movie in a skirt suit. *shudder* In fact, I'm pretty sure she lives in my closet (Cheney and Rumsfeld are still under my bed).
Andrea and I decided that next election, we need to just go all-out American-style and have corporate entities blatantly advertise on behalf of candidates and their running mates. Feeling particularly witty, I came up with:
[Fade in to low bass line. Flash slow motion head turns and eye close ups of the glitzy, radiant Sarah Palin toting her glitzy, radiant gun. NRA bling? I think so.]
V.O.
"Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's the 150,000 bucks the Republican Party spent on her wardrobe. Or maybe it's Maybeline."
[Palin points her manicured fingers a la Charlie's Angels]
Palin
"The make-up for mavericks."
[Palin shoots the fake finger gun and blows out the "smoke" with a wink]
[Fade out]
All that being said, I decided to save myself the ulcers and went to bed early last night, praying the morning would bring something positive and pretty. When I turned on the radio and heard that Obama had won, I felt a small weight off of my shoulders, but I am by no means pacified. I used Obama and McCain's energy proposals as a point of examination with my middle school environmental class yesterday and we came to the conclusion that, really, they're not all that different. Cap-and-trade programs? Really? Having a friend that works for the EPA, I think I can determine that it's not really going to make a difference in the amount of blatant corruption displayed currently.
But Obama won. And I'm cautious, but hopeful. I confessed on Sunday evening, half-asleep on the couch, that I was terrified. Horribly, sickly terrified of what is coming. Obama is not my savior, I realize this, but maybe with the backing of a similarly aligned congress, he can get something done, and will use his powers for good.
Hey, it worked in Blazing Saddles!
