Going home with Rebekah was never part of the plan. Actually, seeing Rebekah a second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and so on times had never been part of the plan, either. One night to mourn all they'd lost and then go their own ways in a truce of silence that sliced anyway. But then he'd taken her home and, for some reason, asked her to stay. So, ( Read more... )

Getting involved again with Damon Salvatore certainly hadn't been part of Rebekah's plan, especially not after all the things that had happened between them and she wasn't thinking about what she had done to Elena and Ric. Yes, she had killed them both but she stood by that decision. It had been the only way to keep her remaining family members safe and, honestly, it was no worse than anything they had tried to do to her or her brothers. Not that it would work to point out to them that they had no moral high ground. Elena and her group, all of them, liked to pretend they were right in anything they did while painting everyone else as the bad guy for doing the same thing. Protecting themselves and those they loved ( ... )

Damon looked the statue up and down, eyebrows going up.

"I'm...going to just say no comment on that. Except if Stefan ever gets me something like this, I'm going to have some questions."

"Well, it's hard to figure out what to get for each other after so long." She replied with a bit of a shrug, looking somewhat amused as she moved to sit down.

"I have a painting that he did for me up in my room." She commented a moment later. "He's a rather good, if you can imagine it."

Damon gave the statue another look. "Uh huh...." The shapely parts were particularly interesting, and he shook his head a little, moving on, but giving her a look.

"Caroline said something about that. I have a hard time buying it, but I guess everyone has their hobbies..."

Klaus as an artist he still couldn't wrap his mind around.

"Don't you have one?" She asked, arching a brow at him as she sipped her drink again before lowering the glass. "I actually make jewelery whenever I have the inclination to." it was something she had done more in centuries past than recently but she had given thought to starting up again.

"Or looking into different cultures and history." She added after, shifting to make herself comfortable as she crossed her legs.

He shrugged a little, still pacing the room for a couple of more passes, then moved to sit next to her. "A hobby? Besides stalking high school dances? Not really..."

He probably needed one, but he'd been more of an aimless drifter than really cultivating anything before. "What's Elijah do for fun?"

She made a bit of a face at the mention of school dances mainly to hide her disappointment at the fact that she had never made it to one. Ever.

"He works." She flashed a coy little smirk before shrugging. "He likes to play and write music."

He tilted his head at the face, not having been privy to her high school dance wish, but rolled his eyes.

"The working doesn't surprise me...." Elijah looked like he liked to be in charge of something, after all. "The music....does."

"Why? Because he seems so straight laced? Not possible of passion or creativity?" She asked with a slightly amused look though there was something sharp in her tone as well.

He caught the sharp far more directly than he did the amused, and there was a flicker of wariness that accompanied that. He hadn't forgotten how dangerous pissing her, or her brothers, off could be. Not that it had ever stopped him, but.

He actually wasn't looking for a fight right now.

"I wouldn't ever consider your brother not capable of anything he set his mind to," he said with a wry smile. "But, no, I wouldn't have pegged him as a musician just because I haven't seen that side of him." He shrugged slightly. "Pretty much except for the day we undaggered you all, my conversations with him have pretty much ended bloody, not chatting about music."

His blood. Not Elijah's. Except the once.

Rebekah drew in a slow breath once she understood what he had meant and she nodded, looking at her drink. "I'm sorry." She murmured a moment later, looking at him again with a bit of a shrug. "Sometimes people seemed to forget we're actually more than killers and monsters. They forget that we actually have likes, hopes, dreams and even hobbies."

"He really is quite good though." She said with a bit of pride. "Perhaps you'll get to hear him play some time in the future."

"Maybe that's because you forget to show them," Damon pointed out, without thinking, but without any real rancor. "None of you came to town with the attitude of looking to make friends. It's hard to recover from that." A little shrug and he made a bit of a face. "Believe me--I know."

Bonnie still hated him, and Stefan had never really gotten past a lot of things he'd done. He might be "one of them" when it came to the Mystic Falls crew, but he'd never quite fit with them, either. Too much blood under the water, as it were.

"I'd like that," he said, half to apologize, half because, well....it would be interesting to see, if somewhat mind boggling. And probably not a good idea to antagonize Elijah more than necessary if he was going to keep doing whatever this was with Rebekah.

"I tried." She replied defensively. "Afterwards, I tried but all it got me was a dagger in the back." Not that she really wanted to rehash the past but she had tried to side with them but they could never get past who she was or who her siblings were. They wanted only to see her as a bad guy.

She wondered at times if Damon still saw her that way despite what they were doing at the moment.

Forcing herself to relax, she sipped her drink with a little nod. "It should be no surprise that classical music is what he's best at but he can play almost anything."

"It's the 'afterwards' part that's the problem," Damon told her, voice still quiet, not accusatory, but trying to explain from what he'd learned for himself. "First impressions take a very long time to overcome. Sometimes you can't."

He shifted a little closer, though, and reached out to brush her hair back. "Sometimes you can."

He smiled a little, nodded. "Well, classical music I can actually see."

She wanted to point out that they hadn't exactly made a good impression at first either but she was going to let it drop as she didn't want to fight with him. Especially not when he was shifting closer and reaching out to touch her, initiating contact this time. It was getting easier and easier to do so between them these days.

"I hope that we can." She murmured, leaning into his touch.

Then she chuckled a bit. "Of course. Though you should hear him play the stuff he writes."

"I think we're working on it," he said quietly, letting it drop, as well. He knew they hadn't been very welcoming, but the whole arrival with killing Tyler thing had soured most people.

And, it was still so hard to get past it--witness him and Bonnie, which was even worse now after his turning her mom.

"What sort of stuff does he write?"
