10 minutes to Lunchtime!
There's something about coffee and what it does to me that makes me angry. Even when I have too much and I'm sick to my stomach (which doesn't take all that much coffee for me), I want more. It's ridiculous how casually people take the idea of caffeine and other legal drugs. Granted, there are many many things that can cause addictive behavior (look at World of Warcraft, for one). But things like caffeine and Robitussin and other such non prescription drugs are promoted to ridiculous heights in our society.
Watch TV for an hour, maybe two, and how many drug commercials do you see? We've turned the idea of medication into a neccessary part of our everyday functions. Have a problem? Take medication! Do you feel depressed? Drug yourself! There's a pill for every little thing, and some of them are ridiculously easy to get. Things like ADD and depression are pretty bad and terribly overdiagnosed.
To be clear, I don't meant to undercut the importance of drugs for things like bipolar and ADD. There are many cases where they have been absolutely vital in the success of keeping people healthy and well-adjusted. What I really object to is the complete generic and oversaturation of drugs into our every day life. Drugs are not the cure-all you're looking for to give you a perfect life. You can't GET a perfect life.
I guess what I'm getting at is that people need to think about what they are doing. Using medication properly is important.
