Austin

I have been indoctrinated into another Austin Tradition. I went to the Alamo Drafthouse for the first time tonight. For non-austinites, the Alamo is a small chain (as in, 3 or 4) of movie theatres where they took out every other row of seats and put in small tables. During the movie, they serve you dinner: pretty damn good french fries, a wide range of gormet pizzas, burgers, nachos, mexican food, real buttered popcorn, you name it. They also serve beer by the pitcher, or bucket if you prefer bottles. So tonight two friends and I went to see Hot Fuzz, had a pitcher of Fat Tire and burgers.

If you haven't seen Hot Fuzz, DO SO. holy shit that was a fantastic movie. Although pboyd04 noted that I had a lot in common with the main character, hopefully it won't take me a string of gruesome and gushy murders to see the squeeky monkey side of life. If this doesn't make sense, see the movie. If this does make sense, congratulations; see the movie again. For the fencers: There's a 3 second fencing scene in the beginning and a short psuedo-fencing scene at the end. This is obviously enough to qualify the movie for a party night. That and the gushy-ness. The Alamo prefaced the movie with clips from a ~mid 70's to early 80's cop show with William Shatner, in which every episode a car is blown up. It was hi-fucking-larious.

My friends dropped me off at the co-op around ten, and I wandered in to the lounge to find lots of folks hanging out. One of my co-op mates saw me and said "If you keep me company while I do some homework, I'll give you some of that good tequila I've got." I like how she thinks. It's a fantastic sipping tequila, which is not someting I think I've ever tasted before this bottle. She rightfully refuses the taste to anyone who says "sure! I'll get the lime and salt!" This tequila is too good for that. You do not shoot this tequila, you sip it slowly on the rocks. So I hung out, watched her work on a beautiful bonnet (she's a draper), chatted with some folks, and generally wound down. It's been a good evening.
