Don't rent out 'La Spagnola' if you should ever find yourself considering it, which I'd imagine is rather unlikely anyway. Funniest Aussie comedy since 'Muriel's Wedding'? It's now clear to me the Aussies haven't been doing a lot of laughing in the cinema for a good decade. God, it was miserable. A mentalist 1960s housewife taking revenge on her runaway husband had an air of black humour about it, but it was actually just quite depressing. It was panned by all three judges! Mind you Alex Dimitirius was in it which is always a treat for the eyes.

Didn't sleep well last night at all. Had disturbing dreams about my Mum crying and saying she can't enjoy life anymore since her Mum died and then another about being on holiday with Jo, Ben, Jon and AJ. Jon got kidnapped and we had no idea where the fuck he could be, plus the car had been broken into and trashed. Woke up feeling quite shocked and worked up. I don't normally have vivid dreams so it hit me quite hard. Bad dreams have come back to me in the last six months or so. It used to be a regular feature in my childhood but not for years until now. There was that one not long ago when I was walking down Gregory Boulevard through a sea of oncoming Muslim protesters and was getting totally lost amongst them until I started running and running. Suddenly I was running towards the sea and it was rushing in around me so I turned to run backwards but it was miles all around me and I was drowning... eurgh!

Going to see the Bric A Brac event at Rescue Rooms tomorrow night which is blatantly aimed at teenagers because all the bands are really young, it's a 14+ and the gig runs from 3 - 10 but Thom and I are desperate to see Crystal Castles. I wouldn't mind seeing Friendly Fires and Bearsuit, either. I dare say I might be an oldie sulking around on the balcony. When did it become so that a 26 year old feels old at a gig? It happens more and more these days. Am I just down with the youth or have my tastes not aged? Maybe I'll be like John Peel when I'm 60 or something. So many friends I know who used to love new and loud music just listen to the old favourites and never check out new bands anymore. Some just listen to more indie, easy-listening stuff rather than challenging new music. I find my tastes as open-minded as ever and love anything loud and horrid and raucous. My favourite new bands this year have included Kap Bambino, Crystal Castles and Fucked Up, and my club night preferences have shifted to trance and techno nights, which all suggests my taste isn't mellowing with age. This pleases me greatly.

Apparently the Reading Festival site is largely boggy still so it will probably be in quite some state by the time Sunday rolls round. Hopefully the sun will be out and Smashing Pumpkins will put in a stunning show. And in a few days time Laura Jefferies will be Laura Selwood!
