and the walls came tumbling down

D and I saw The King's Speech downtown last night: good movie, very nice performance by Colin Firth. We walked by 335 Yonge afterwards to observe the demolition - the entire North-facing wall (along Gould) is gone as well as much of that half of the building, exposing a great deal of damage inside. Apologies for the poor quality cell phone camera photo, but here it is:

I got email from the Department of Homeland Security yesterday -- they're now granting NEXUS and SENTRI members access to the Global Entry program. NEXUS and SENTRI are the expedited clearance programs for border crossings between the US and Canada (NEXUS) and the US and Mexico (SENTRI). Membership costs $50 and requires a background check, interview, and collection of biometric data. Global Entry is a similar program for entrance to the US from any overseas country, and up until now was completely separate from NEXUS and SENTRI. It used to make me very sad to enter the US and see the empty Global Entry kiosk right next to a 30-minute Customs line.
