Untitled Christmas WIP
“Here.” A box was thrust under my nose. “Merry Christmas Chris.”
I frowned. I thought we’d agreed no gifts. Sure I had something tucked away for Steve I always did, that didn’t mean that I gave them to him.
“I knew ya need the one and the other well, it’s just you. I had to get it when I saw it.” Steve shrugged trying to look indifferent but I’ve known him too long, I can see he’s nervous about something.
“Steve, I…” I glanced at him and saw how anxious he was.
“Please Chris? I know we said no gifts. But please?” he asked quietly.
I just nodded having no other clue on anything else I could say. I set the magazine I’d been reading aside and after one more glance at him I shook the gift once before pulling the tape off the side and ripping the paper on the same side. On an impulse I took the red bow off the top and stuck it on Steve’s chest. “Don’t just stand there hovering man, sit.” I scooted a few inches towards one end of the couch. Steve sat on the couch but on the far end from where I was, like he thought get mad or something. I quirked an eyebrow at him and at a look from him I continued opening the box now resting on my lap.
I pulled the box outta the bright festive paper with penguins on it and put the paper on the coffee table. I looked at the plain box now in my hands. No writing on it, so no clues as to its contents. Opening the box I saw two things. One smaller box nestled in tissue paper and a thick brown journal tucked in some more of that tissue paper. I pulled the journal out first to examine it.
“I figured if ya had someplace nice to keep you songs and lyrics you might not lose the pages you got while working on them.”
I grinned at Steve. “Thanks man. It’s great.” I ran my fingers along the new leather. God help me if Steve had figured out my thing for new leather, I was sunk. Steve was smiling a bit more when I looked back up at him.
“Open the other box, Christian.” Steve whispered.
“A’ight.” I set the journal back in its tissue paper nest and after pulling the small box out I set the larger box on the coffee table onto of the wrapping paper. The smaller box was wrapped to as if it had been purchased and wrapped first then he’d decided to get the journal and just put the small box in with it.
Opening the small box like I did the other and adding that wrapping paper to the pile on the coffee table, I looked over at Steve before pulling the lid off the box.
The silver glinted in the light from the Christmas tree I’d put up last week. I felt a slow smile spread across my face while looking at it.
“Do you like it?”
“I… It’s perfect. You didn’t need to do this Steve.” I couldn’t stop looking at it. But knowing Steve as long as I have I could sense the relief hit him and I knew he was smiling.
“Look on the back.”
I turned it over in my hand. The KANE logo had been engraved on the back. “Steve, I….” I remembered the gift tucked in the back of my closet behind my boots. Grinning I looked over at him. “Gimme a sec. I gotta get something.”
I got up and went into my room with the token still in my hand. Looking in the mirror I put it on, admiring it for a moment before turning to my closet. I pushed my boots and a few stray thing outta the way and picked up the box I’d wrapped for Steve. I turned back to head outta the room and give it to Steve when I felt a sudden burst of nervousness. I’d never really thought I’d give these to Steve. Not like this anyway. Come on I could do this. Thinking of Steve waiting and not knowing what I was thinking, I ran a hand through my hair while trying to think. “The hell with this…” I muttered heading outta the room.
When I walked back in the living room I noticed that Steve had gotten up from the couch and was staring out the front window watching the snow. He still had the bow stuck on his shirt. I smiled. Either he liked that I did that or he didn’t remember it was there. At any rate it was adorable… Adorable? Since when did I think of Steve as adorable? When he does all the little things he does for me and the band and our friends like he does all the time, my brain supplied. Hmmm. I knew I liked Steve and that I hated being away from him when on set. But did I really like him that much?
Realizing I’d been standing there for several minutes staring at Steve and he hadn’t moved I walked up behind him stopping mere inches from him. “Steve?”
Steve turned and looked at me then at the silver laying against my shirt, before noticing I had a box in my hand and that I’d held it out to him.
Carefully taking the small green wrapped box from me with a small smile, “what happened to no presents Chris?” he asked.
I shrugged not knowing how to explain it without telling him about my feelings. “Just… I donno. I thought it was you and man you deserve something nice sometimes after dealing with my dumb-ass so much.” I muttered moving to go back and sit on the couch.
White-hot heat seared though my nerves when Steve reached out to stop the movement by grabbing my arm. “Stay.”
I turned back to him and after looking at him for a moment I nodded, “you gonna open it or let it sit in the box til next year?” I asked.
Steve smiled and box in his hands. Pulling of the silver ribbon I’d tied around it and for lack of anywhere else to put it he stuffed the ribbon in his pocket. He pulled the plain green paper off it and tucked that into his other pocket and opened the box.
Steve grinned and pulled the two objects out of the box before placing the box on the windowsill. He ran his fingers over the etched brown leather circle before admiring the silver one. He put one bracelet on each wrist and ran his fingers over the leather one again. “That’s why you grinned so much when you saw it on yours huh?” He asked tracing the KANE logo across the brown leather.
All I could muster was “Yup.” But my fingers had a mind of their own. I reached out to trace the letters on the bracelet myself. His eyes watched as I touched the leather. Steve reached out and grabbed a handful of my shirt with his free hand tugging me closer.
“Chris?”
I hmmm’d at him transfixed by the bracelets that Steve now wore. Steve tugged my shirt once more before I finally looked up at him. Within seconds my hand was wrapped around his wrist and tugging him towards me as he tugged my shirt and pulled me to him.
The white-hot heat seared through me the second we crashed into each other and before I knew it I was searching out the heat with a kiss that had to be the hottest and most erotic kiss of my life.
