Las Vegas

Hello loyal following. Today's topic will be the good and the evil side of living in Sin City. I'm still very torn about how I feel about this "city". Sometimes, like if I've been partying, I love it. But sometimes, like today, I hate it.

Things I hate: (1) The heat. Its just not natural. Today's high in my neck of the woods (or my neck of the sand) is 113. Outside hurts. I know what you're thinking, "but its a DRY heat." I could kill a kitten for each time I hear that moronic saying. Its not a dry heat - its a hot heat. Like the oven. Plus, the worst part is that there is no relief. You know how in Texas a nice puffy cloud may drift by or you can take refuge under a large oak tree? Here, there are no clouds . . . ever. Also, the only trees are palm trees which provide enough shade for a small animal.
(2) The browness of it all. Everything is brown. Empty fields, the mountains, people's yards, the millions of Mexicans, everything. Noone has grass. Just brown rocks. Brown, brown, brown.
(3) There is no real sense of community here. Very few people are "from" Las Vegas. There is no such thing as a Las Vegas accent. 5,000 people move here a month. Tourists, and taxis, and casino workers. Its all so sad.
(4) Speaking of sad: locals who gamble. Everytime I go to the grocery store, during lunch or right after work, I see my secretary there playing Video Poker. Sad.
(5) Construction. Everywhere. I have forgotten what its like to drive down a road that is not being widened. Its growing so fast that everything is new and clean, but at the same time has no personality.
(6) People from California. They come in droves on Friday evenings tieing up the interstate. Nothing but Cal. license plates. Then its exactly the opposite on Sundays except on the other side of the interstate.
Whew! What a bitch-fest. I feel like R did yesterday. I wrote so much about what I hate that I forgot to write about what I like. I'll do that later.
