True story:

I went to the DMV today. The couple in front of me finally get up to the desk, next to a rather pertinent sign, and the woman asks what they need and the guy says "She needs to take a driving test." So the woman looks at the female customer and asks, "You want to take the test?" The lady looks back, blankly. The guy presents a passport from Equatorial Guinea, a few papers, and says, "Yes, she needs a translation test."

"Ahh." The representative taps the sign in front of them. "No translation tests today. Sorry. We will be offering them again daily come Monday, but I'm afraid we can't do that today." The guy is flabbergasted. "But," he sputters, "at the window... she told us all we needed were these papers now. We have the passport. We just..." he trails off.

The rep asks, "Oh, is she a diplomat?"

The guy: "Well, not really."

The rep: "What is not really? If she's a diplomat, then she has a letter from the State Department!"

The guy: "Well, then, um, no."

The rep: "You don't have a letter from the State Department? Is she a diplomat? Do you need a letter?"

The guy: "Um, then, not a diplomat."

I never thought I'd say this, but rock on, DMV.
