yo sé que un día volverá

I have three filmmakers who I consider my greatest influences/idols: Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, and Pedro Almodóvar. Today, I saw one of them in the flesh. I really don't know if I even believe it yet.

I skipped class this morning for it, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up. I went this morning with Victoria to an advance press screening of Volver at Lincoln Center, which was followed by a press conference with the filmmaker who, in case, is none other than Pedro Almodóvar.

We were sitting front row centre. He was within spitting distance. The whole time I was in such disbelief that I was actually much calmer than I would have imagined. Joining Pedro Almodóvar onstage were Penélope Cruz, his brother and producer Augustín Almodóvar, and the moderator. Almodóvar answered some of the questions in Spanish, and his "castellano" is so clear that I was able to understand almost everything. I swear that he even looked directly at me a few times. Unfortunately, as soon as the Q&A session was over he was swarmed by photographers and walked briskly out the door, so there would be no autograph for me this time. However, his brother Augustín lolly-gagged a bit, and ended up holding the door for me on the way out.

Um, so yeah, can we say "highlight of the semester"?
