Things have been going well; very very busy, and not always stress-free, but well nonetheless.
I've been working quite a lot. This week, I work at least one shift every single day, which, although tiring, is good, as it's nice to have some money.
Last Friday, on a day off from work, I spent most of the day with my friend Emily, before she left the city this past weekend. I think it was a nice little little goodbye for her. We took a stroll through Central Park and made our way to the Guggenheim Museum, where we saw the Zaha Hadid exhibition (which is absolutely MARVELOUS; if you are currently in New York City and enjoy modern art/architecture, this is a MUST SEE). After the museum, we went down to Greenwich Village and had dinner at Red Bamboo, where Emily tried fake chicken for the first time, and liked it very much. After that, we headed over to Magnolia Bakery for a "sweet" ending to her New York City experience (did I just do a pun? fuck). Emily had attempted twice before to go to Magnolia and failed each time, but the third time was the charm. It was sad seeing Emily go because it has been nice to have a friend in New York City who is not part of the NYU "clique". That, and she was also the last remaining non-NYU vestige of my time abroad. In an odd sort of way, saying goodbye to her was like saying goodbye to Florence all over again.
And speaking of Florence, the other night I dreamt about cappuccinos. And not just any cappuccinos, but specifically the ones from the bar at Villa Ullivi on the La Pietra campus. In my dream, I was in some cafeteria-looking place where I got a sort of cappuccino-like coffee drink, and was yelling at everyone around me at how watered-down and generally bad it was, how it was so big that it'd be cold by the time I finished it, and how it was five times as expensive as my usual €1,00 cappuccinos. If this dream is any indication, I'd say I am still going through some sort of long-term withdrawal.
In other news, I am now writing from the Lafayette computer lab, as I moved down to Lafayette this past Sunday. I was unable to find anyone who could help me out, so I had to move all of my belongings down from Union Square to Chinatown in two trips all by myself. It was not fun, but it could have been worse. My new apartment is pretty sweet, in my opinion. It's very big and spacious, with windows in the common room (which I didn't know was possible in Lafayette rooms). My (and soon also to be Fred's) bedroom is on the southeast corner of the building, so we have four windows on two sides of the room. If we were a bit higher, we'd have an amazing view, although the one we have now is not all that bad (the room looks out onto the government buildings in the Civic Center). So yeah, I have yet to unpack most of my stuff, since most of my time is spent at work. But slowly, it is turning into a nice place where I won't have to move out for a good solid nine months.
Oh, and one more thing, one of my suitemates, Ryan, has already moved in. Even still, I have yet to meet him. He moved in his stuff last Friday, and my guess is that he has gone home for the time being. But, in spite of his absence, I am not the only one in the apartment; every day when I walk in the door I am greeted by none other than Mr. Ball. That is, Mr. Ball of NYU-Facebook fame. In my apartment. I am living with Mr. Ball.
