Lachlan had been bathing his son when Rogue's call came through. Tara was out like a light in the bedroom, so Lachlan had left her a note, bundled the wee one up, complete with his hat with ears and got to PPTH as quickly as he could. Which really wasn't all that quickly at all as he came to realise that there was no such thing as 'quickly' with a newborn baby. Despite loving the fatherhood thing, he still didn't have the total expert knack of all the logistics and even though his son was wrapped up perfectly in the buggy and the baby bag was all neatly packed with about every baby item Lachlan could get his hands on in a rush, Lachlan himself was in a disarray. His jacket was in inside out, he had grabbed Tara's purple scarf instead of his own, his socks were mismatched and his hair was sticking up in all directions

"Okay's a bit relative at the moment," Rogue replied with a wry smile. She still couldn't quite accept the sight of Lachlan with a buggy, but it made sense. The Chase in her head was very proud.
Rogue pulled out the spoon and tossed it into the cup as she sighed and frowned. "I'm never going to be able to forgive myself if anything happens to him, Lachlan. We've never--I've never--the touches before... it was never this bad. I don't know what happened. I was supposed to be in control."
Lachlan nudged the baby bag out of the way with his foot and pulled the buggy up close in front of him, then set the breaks. His hand remained protectively around the hand bar, almost as if he expected someone to walk by and try to pinch his son. But it was all reactionary and his attention was focused solely on Rogue, his blue eyes searching over her face intently for any signs she, herself, wasn't well.
He pulled his jacket off and slipped it around her shoulders to try and keep her warm. "Aye, love. Dinnae worry too much beyond the here and now. It's important you try and stay as stress free as possible. You're in your third trimester now, aye? You need to be careful." He rubbed her arm softly. "Are there any chances being pregnant has stopped the control? I mean, I dinnae want to try and indicate I know about your mutation, but medically I know being pregnant can do all sorts of weird and wonderful things to a lassie's body. And I can speak first hand experience with that."
Rogue pulled her mouth to the side and shrugged. "I don't know, I really don't. I would have thought if it was going to interfere with my control it would have done so earlier. I was being careful, but then when the control was holding up me and Rob went right back to our usual routine."
She looked at Lachlan, and tried to battle with the voices in her head to at least get some sense of what might be happening. Every man and their psyche seemed to have an opinion. "Maybe it's a third trimester thing? What if I'm broken? What if I broke the baby?!"
A note of hysteria entered her voice and she rubbed a gloved hand over her face as her leg was once again bouncing up and down.
Lachlan took her gloved hand. "No, no, no. Dinnae panic, love. Stay calm for me, aye? We can arrange to have a wee sonogram if you want to be sure, but can you feel her?" he asked. "If you can feel her moving, she's likely doing just fine. But we can check if you want to. Every pregnancy is different, love. If it was all predictable, we wouldnae have special Maternity units and midwives would all be out of business. Even our Tara, we couldnae have really known the birth would be such a stressor on her body to make her so sick."
He rubbed her hand. "Have they told you how he is? Did you need me to go speak to anyone?" He paused, watching her closely. "What did you tell them?"
"You try to bloody not panic when your husband's having convulsions because you touched him," Rogue blurted out before she clapped her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. My head's just--it takes time after something like this happens. I'm not exactly myself..."
She held her hand against her stomach again and waited for some sign of movement. Her shoulders slumped as she let out a sigh of relief. So there was movement, that was good. Very good. "I told them he collapsed while we were trying to have sex... There's not much I can tell them other than his heart was beating quickly and he went unconscious. Not without telling them the truth. Lachlan... David was in a coma for three weeks after I gave him one kiss. How's Rob going to get through this after more than a little kiss?"
Lachlan remained calm in the face of her snap. "It's okay, love," he assured her, but sat back a little to politely pull out of her personal space and put his hand back on the baby buggy beside him. "I understand more than you realise, Rogue," he added softly.
"I dinnae know the technicalities of your ability, only what you've told me and what Chase has mentioned over the time. But the difference here is he's used to your touch. He's had it every day for close to a year now. I dinnae know if that means anything, but it might. He's also alive and was given medical treatment ASAP. You know what happened. With the other guy, you had none of that. And I know it's probably nay what you want to hear right now," he began and then spotted Foreman and Kutner hurry past the waiting room entry. He frowned uncertainly. That couldn't be good. "But we just have to wait. They arenae going to know anything until they can see how his body has reacted to all this."
"I really am sorry," she repeated, looking devastated that she'd snapped like that. She'd called Lachlan for help, not to yell at him. "I didn't mean to bring you back here so soon, but there's no one else."
"He's been trying to help me, to feed me details that I can try and give them, but why would they listen to me? I'm not a doctor, I'm just married to one. I'm sure they think I'm lying because there's no way I should know all those terms." Rogue picked up the spoon again and started to chew the end, as she followed Lachlan's gaze. "I need someone they'll listen to, and I really can't do this alone. I don't want to do this alone." There was also the smallest possibility that she was scared she might wind up running away, and she couldn't. She had to stay.
Lachlan's eyes turned back to her and he smiled softly at her. "It's okay, love. Dinnae apologise, aye? This place might be unnverving for me, but I nearly died in this very ER. We can be a bit on the anxious side together, aye? I just need you to try and stay calm because stress is never a good thing in pregnancy. You need to think of you and the bairn as well as Chase. It's a lot to ask, I know, but you'll find it in you. Something always makes sure we do
( ... )
Rogue nodded, her hand still on her pregnant belly. "I'll try and be calm. I got the Doc in my head, you think that'd be enough to calm me... only it's hard when I got such a huge hit of his pain and his confusion and his, well, horniness." Rogue managed a smirk as she looked at Lachlan before looking back to where they'd taken Chase. "If you're planning on passing on me, please just give me a warning first, okay?"
"Making scenes is what me and Chase do best, so you just give the word and I'll do it. Anything it takes. I don't want House involved, and I'm pretty sure Rob wouldn't either."
Lachlan smirked faintly back. "You realise the first thing they are going to think is that he's had a heart attack or stroke of some sort. He might be young, but you would be surprise how many heart attacks from sex come through an ER of all ages. But their tests are all going to come up fruitless... possibly already are. Those two doctors a wee minute ago. Foreman and Kutner from House's team. It willnae take long in this place for the grapevine to flame that one of their own has come through unconscious. Chase's strong and healthy, too. Nay warning. House will be gagging to get his hands on this, especially because it's Chase. We need him admitted to the ICU under Riley, then you can refuse to authorise any tests House or his team call. If we can just buy a wee bit of time, he might wake up before they want to start looking for illnesses that arenae there," he explained and then laughed just a little. "It's okay, love. Promise. It wasnae like I remember it."
Rogue frowned. "If they think it's a heart attack is there a chance they'll treat him with something that will make him worse?" Rogue rubbed the back of her neck and tried to not slip further down into her seat. The adrenalin rush was starting to wear off and she had a feeling she was about to crash big time. "I don't want him anywhere near Chase, so demanding that my husband get cared of by someone really isn't going be hard. They have to come out at some point and ask, don't they? They're not just going to steal him, right?"
Rogue reached out to take Lachlan's hand, and squeezed it gently. "Just still say something if it's not okay, okay? I don't need to make anything worse for you as well."
Lachlan shook his head slowly. "Nay, love. They willnae touch him unless they find anything to treat. If they find something that needs treating, then okay, they do and they treat it. It will be independant to what happened." Riley started to cry in the buggy, so Lachlan started to rock if softly. "On the face of it, Chase is seemingly a very sick lad. They're going to try to find something to treat and that is usually House's area of expertise. If Chase really was sick, he would be in the best hands with House. We just need to buy a wee bit of time. They'll come, but it will be a quick process. He needs to be in the ICU. A coma, nay matter how it happened, is very serious."
The baby wouldn't stop crying so Lachlan folded the blankets back and scooped his son into his arms, kissing his head and rubbing his back. "Here's reason right here, love, why you have to stay strong." He glanced up at her with a small smile. "Your bairn needs you."
Rogue nodded slowly as she watched Lachlan with Riley. She knew Baby Girl Chase needed her. She wasn't going to let her down like their first child. Although it was still almost a speck when she'd lost it. Now they had their second chance and the due date was getting closer and closer.
"I'll make a scene shortly. It really won't be too hard. I don't want that House anywhere near Rob, and I don't think he wants him anywhere near him either. If you think the ICU is best, then that's where he'll go. I just want him to be okay."
Lachlan nodded. "He has to be in the ICU," he told her quietly. "Which is scary, I know, but they have the best of the best there. He's an Intensivist, he'll tell you that," he said, with a tiny smile.
"I have to go change the wee one before he screams the whole hospital down. Will you be okay for a few minutes, love? Dinnae worry. They willnae do anything without telling you. In fact, they need your authorisation to do anything to him. Dinnae forget that, aye? You're calling the shots here but you arenae alone, by any means."
Rogue gave a nod, her eyes distant like she was somewhere else. Then she blinked, and turned to look at Lachlan. "Thank you for coming, Lachlan. I don't know if I said that before... but thank you. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't come."
Her gaze shifted to Riley, and any other time she might have tried to touch the baby, but even with gloves on she didn't dare risk it. "You should definitely go and take care of the little man."
