Chapter 5: Unrestrained Attraction

Ever since that day, Yamada hadn’t shown himself in class anymore, so did Yuto of course. Chinen seemed to daze off often, though managed to answer every question that teachers post on him, so they can’t really do much except to ignore it after a while.

Daiki and Inoo hadn’t shown either, too busy organizing the Festival she presumed. She wondered if she should go visit Yuto again, but she kept seeing shadows and images in her mind every time she went to the neighbourhood. Not to mention Yabu’s words.

Kaiyu sighed as she finished cleaning the blackboard. Kaho and she were on classroom duty today.

“What’s wrong?” asked Kaho.

“It’s nothing.” She hadn’t told her about what happened in Rose Garden, since she knew she will be extremely worried and follows her every day for safety reasons… “You should go now, you have recital practice don’t you? I’ll take care of the rest here.”

“Thanks Kaiyu.” She ran and gave her a hug, but due to their height differences she always ended up chocking her in the neck with her shoulder instead… (“Kaho I can’t breathe!”)

“I’ll see you tonight.”

A few red drops dripped on the cardboard box he was putting down. Like rain, it started out small and gradually got denser and thicker. Next thing he noticed, the slightly scattered small drops started combining with one another.

“What’s this…” He said as he stood up straight, only to felt more of them dripping from his nose. He’s nose bleeding yet again. This is happening quite often now, but he couldn’t figure out why. It had never happened at this frequency before ever since he was young, so why?…

He quickly pulled out some tissue from his pocket and wiped it clean. He tried doing the same to the top of the cardboard box too but could only get its surface, some already socked in, leaving a light mark.

He sighed putting away the tissue back to his pocket upon a call from outside the door.

“Daiki, we need someone to set up the sound mixing system. Are you done in there?” Came Inoo’s voice.

He sniffed slightly before replying, “yeah, coming.”

“Ria-sama, please look at this.” He said as he handed a handkerchief to the lady standing in front of him.

She held it closer under her nose and smelled the faint scent still remaining on the fabric. “Yes, you are right.”

“To think that it happened so soon again… Isn’t the number dropping these years?”

“It seems it’s not the end of the world after all.” She said smiling. “Let’s have our preparations ready for him.”

“I understand. I will do it now, Ria-sama.”

“I don’t like that address…” Raising her eyebrows slightly.

He widened his eyes a little and then turned them away with a little embarrassment, “Yes… Ka-san…”

Kaiyu walked down the stairs after exiting her classroom with her bag and a pile of logbooks to return to the office.

“I wonder how Kaho’s rehearsal is… I really want to hear her song.” She said to herself.

Ring…

Suddenly there appeared a sound of clear bell rings, one after another, clear, pure, attracting. She was feeling a bit dizzy, like she’s been put in an alternative world, but for some else reasons, she liked this feeling. Her mind was free from all, there’s nothing she needed to concern about._

The familiar shadow that she has been seeing very often lately is becoming clearer on the edge. It’s not just random colours of smokes anymore, but a shape she can make out to be a boy…

The drop of her logbooks brings her senses back immediately, although she might still wants to stay a little longer just so she can see him more obviously, she had forgot the images completely by now.

“Ouch!” She cries out as she gets a paper cut from one of the sharper end of the logbooks. Biting her figure, she continues to pick up the fallen papers.

An unexpected grip tightens around her wrist and pulls her whole body up from the ground. For a second, Kaiyu can’t make out the situation except for the pain running from her wrist to her whole body. The logbooks scatter over the floor once again.

She flinches as she feels a touch on her fingertip, where the paper cut is. A stream starts rushing out from her body and consciousness. “Ya… Yamada-kun?” She finds herself saying.

A sudden force slams her against the wall, completely numbing her back and legs, immobilizing her entire body. The ache on her wrist burning hard, the feeling of growing sharp nails piercing into her skin slowly.

“What…” But her voice is no longer audible even to herself, her sights becoming fuzzier and darker.

Out of the five physical senses, only hearing, and maybe tactile also, are left. She can hear strong breathing beside her ear, and warmth in the air from his mouth.

What happens afterward she knows not. When she comes back to her senses, she sees Yamada standing in front of her, head staring down with eyes hiding behind his wet bangs. His hands holding onto her left wrist and right shoulder, loosing his grip slowly, but she can still feel the imprint left behind by his clutch.

Silent follows for what seems to be eternity. Neither of them make a single sound, nor do they move or change position at all.

“Yamada…-kun?” Kaiyu finally said, breaking the dead air.

He pushes himself further away from the girl and turns his back toward her.

Kaiyu lowers her arm from the wall, trying to reach to his shoulder with the other.

“STAY AWAY,” he yells putting his head lower than it already is, “from me…” She holds back her hand immediately, eyes widen in shock.

He sighs slightly before running down the stairs. Within seconds he can no longer be heard.

“He’s a strange boy, isn’t he?” Kaiyu turns back at once when she hears a voice accompanied by the sound of bells, “who’s it?” But all she catches is a white shade outside the window, resulting from brightness of the setting sun.
