So I'm a genius

Yesterday as I was working I was being really smart and open the steamer and immediately reached for the thermometer above the steamer. When you open a steam a ton of steam comes out. Steam is really hot so this hurt I pull my arm away, but attempt to continue working. I use said thermometer to see if the brats are up to temp (they are) but after that my arm hurts too badly to continue I run it under cold water for like a minute, it feels better so I try to go back to work. About 5 minutes later it hurts like a mofo again and Helmut says to run it under cold water for 8 min, which I do. Again it feels better so I work. About five minutes later I am about to cry because of the pain and I decide to go to the health center where I sit with my arm under cold water for 30 min. I take some medicine, put aloe on it, and finally feel well enough to work, if a little impaired. When Marianne saw he burn she suggested I take a day off (I don't think I will) and also said that she had never seen a burn lie it and was a little concerned. So I google steam burns to see if there is anything special about them and I learn a few things:
1. Steam is hotter than boiling water (maybe I sort of knew this, it makes sense to me, but I didn't think of it)
2. Apparently cold water is a bad idea. One place said this will cause more pain (not true, which leads me to think the burn isn't that bad) one site said cool water is better.
3. Both sites were in agreement that if the burn is larger than the size of a palm that you should get emergency help. My burn is about the size of my whole hand, but there are only 2 (possibly a third) small blisters, the rest is just red, vaguely purpleish. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for it. It feels a lot better today, but I still find that third fact worrisome.
I'm so jealous of the people back at Beloit already. I'll be there in 11 days.
Marianne left today. She gave me a cook book and told me to steal 2 more from the kitchen. Sunday night dinners anyone?
