Princess Tutu and Mother 3 - Craziest Connections/Similarities I Have Ever Seen

Aug 13, 2011 17:08

Let me start off by saying... This is probably just one HUGE mass of coincidences, but it had so much similarity and so much potential to be discussed that I couldn't help but want to share it with you guys!

Also, let me warn for EXTENSIVE MOTHER 3 SPOILERS (if you don't know of the game and never plan to play it, no worries).

Anyway, this started when I was watching a Let's Play of Mother 3 (a Japanese game that was fan-translated but never released in the USA) recently and got to a certain part today that absolutely made my jaw drop and my mind go haywire. Up to that point, I was comparing the game and PT in small ways (as I find myself always looking for potential similarities to PT in things I watch/do), but this just... whoa.

Have an open and mind and want to see what shocked me so much? Follow the cut below.

Okay, I know that this seems like a lot to ask, but if you can spare the time, watch the video above. Pay attention to the story being told.

I'll list some key things that stood out to me RIGHT AWAY:

--- The song that plays in the background throughout the entire video almost is unmistakeably "Gymnopedie". I could not believe it.

--- Leder, spelled backwards, is Redel. Who is coincidentally telling the story connection. And speaking of endings and beginnings and how we have the power to change our "Fate". "The sound of my 'bell' served as a 'suggestion' to keep everyone's fabricated memories from reverting." ---> This made me think of Edel's organ.

--- Tazmily Village (which I liken incredibly to Kinkan Town), where you start off in the game, appears very closed off and primitive--a small place with little to no concept of technology. It exists on a small island, completely cut off from anything else. The people who live in it had their memories of previous lives before it locked away and embraced their new 'roles".

--- No one in Tazmily has a last name.

--- There is a Dark Dragon sealed by "Needles". Once all the Needles are pulled, the power will be set free. This definitely struck me as parallel to the Raven and being sealed by Mytho's heartshards.

--- There is a constant referral to a fabricated "story". And the people of "Osohe Castle", who were there before, supposedly LEFT the island because they were afraid of the Dragon being unsealed and set free. -- I couldn't help toying with the idea that it could be likened to the untold story of Mytho's kingdom.

--- Wess and Duster are who struck me as being paralleled somewhat to Charon and Fakir. (Wess is Duster's father. Also, unrelated a little, Wess constantly calls Duster a "moron" in this game.) And they were ordered to "Take action" if a dangerous situation were to occur. -- Both Fakir and Charon knew about the "story". Another thing that struck me as interesting is that Duster is slightly handi-capped--he apparently has a scarred leg. Fakir also has a scar.

--- The person called "Porky", apparently traveled through time and space with a "Time Distorter" and came upon the island---and took over, making it into his own personal 'toy box'. He also had animals reconstructed into what are called "Chimeras". -- This part screamed a connection to Drosselmeyer and to turning humans into animals.

-- I'm sort of likening the "Magypsies" to Story-spinners or possibly the Bookmen, but that's very loose.

--- Not shown in the video, but discovered in the game, is that when you meet Porky, he's an OLD MAN, having aged through his travels through time and space.

Okay, now, I understand that there's like, a BILLION plot holes in connecting the two, but I am I the only one who sees some scary similarities here?

And this would make an incredible crossover. LOL.

If you see any further connections, please do share! I'd love to discuss this. I was absolutely giddy with the possibilities.
