Hello to all once again!
I would like to report that Bettina and i have made it back to the continant of Africa and are now safely in Capetown. (and i want to do EVERYTHING on that back of the animal crackers box! {sorry i have missed Simpsons})
After being shocked and finacialy drianed in Dubai Bettina and i escaped to Muscat Oman. We have two new friends there that we met on our felucca trip down the Nile. They were a great couple and were gracious enough to have us in their home.
On Monday morning i was sitting in Oman with my friend Geeta watching a movie. We were having tea and i was waiting to wash the henna out of my hair. (of course i did not make it more than a month with out dying it!!:o) Everything was fine. Bettina was looking online for bus tickets back to Abu Dahbi so we could catch our flight out the next day. All of the sudden Bettina ran into the living room. She did not even have to say a word i could tell by the look on her face. "Our flight is today isn't it?" I asked. "We have to go!!" she yelled
We started running around the apartment trying to gather up all of our stuff. We were eight hours away from the Abu Dahbi airport and we had no way to get there. While i was scrubbing henna out of my hair and Bettina was packing Geeta and her husband started searching for tickets out of Muscat.
Once we had gathered up all our stuff we hopped in the car and sped to the airport. Poor organized punctual Bettina was chewing her nails and sweating. I on the other hand had a different reaction i burst into uncontrolable laughter all the way to the airport till the second we got up to the ticket counter.
Luckely Geeta had been a flight attendent so she knew the system. We finally came up with 2 options. #1 post pone all of our flights and catch them over the next 3 days. pro: it would be free con: lose days in South Africa #2 cancel our flight out of Abu Dahbi and pay for a flight out of Muscat. pro: No lost travel days con: was going to cost a ton of money. Finally i pulled out my creidt cards and bought the tickets on the spot. (in the name of Visa, Master Card and American Express Amen.) Bettina and i dashed to check in and breezed through customs and just made our flight.
We flew to Bahrain and had a 10 1/2 hour lay over, which was nice. We definatly needed the time to calm down. We were able to have coffee, eat chocolate and call home.
I am sorry to report that we never did make it to Abu Dahbi, so Nermal is still out there on his own. (once again, i am sorry i am referring to cartoons)
Anyways we are safley in Capetown and very ready for bed. I am sure we will have lots of good stories after the next few days :o)
lots of love,
~meg
