Telephone Calls

Taking advantage of the fact that Kaito was out of the apartment - they still weren't exactly seeing eye to eye, nor did the princess estimate that they would be any time soon - Emeraude took the time to doll herself up a mite before settling on one of the large couches of her apartment with the phone cradled between her ear and her shoulder. It ( Read more... )

Now that the strange ordeal was over, Shinju was simply tired from worrying and wondering if anyone had been harmed. After returning to his apartment after a relaxing cup of tea (and brief, unintentional nap) at the cafe, he found himself lying on his own couch and drifting off into thought, and eventually dozing off.

He awoke with a start when he heard the phone ringing next to him, and reached over to pick it up. Before checking who it was, he answered it drowsily. "...Hello?"

She probably should have taken into consideration that he might have been sleeping.

"Oh! I'm sorry, were you asleep?"

Emmy bit her lip, sitting up abruptly, taking ahold of the phone and shifting it to her other ear; he was probably thoroughly worn out from the whole event, and she wasn't doing him much of a favour by calling him.

It took him a second to register the words and realize Emeraude had called him.

"Oh, no, I--" he moved the phone away from his mouth to suppress a yawn. "It's fine. So... everyone's okay?"

"I did, didn't I?" Emmy made a noise in her throat before sighing quietly, lying back down on her couch. "More than okay, though hardly anyone actually showed up. Probably a good thing, though - we were stuck outside most of the time."

"Did you know the City has a graveyard?"

"Really, don't worry about it," he assured her. "Good... Well, at least no one else was hurt."

He paused, a bit surprised to hear it. "A graveyard? Really?"

Well, if he said so. Emmy adjusted where she sat, cradling the phone again between shoulder and ear, "Agreed. It was almost a bit anti-climactic, though..."

"That's right," she replied, nodding to herself. It was a weird place, though, especially after the speculation she and Del had gone through. "None of the graves were marked, though..."

"Yeah, it was. Howl just showed up all of a sudden and ended it... though I'm greatful, since none of us had to really get involved." He pauses, an amusing thought coming to mind. "If this was a video game or a movie, I think I'd be pissed that it all happened so suddenly."

"Weird," he mumbled, wondering what or who would be buried there, if anything. "I wonder if there's any significance to it..."

Emmy knew what a movie was, thanks to Del, but not a clue as to what a video game was. Or if she did, it hadn't stuck. "What's a video game?"

"There might be. I wondered if it might be where the Shades came from..." She mused aloud, recalling her conversation with Del.

"Oh--" he shook his head, feeling silly for not realizing she wouldn't know what it was. "It's, um... it's kind of like an interactive movie. Does that make sense?"

"Really? Why's that?" Shinju asked, curious as to her reasoning.

"Oh..." She paused, thinking about it. A movie that you could control? That made sense, though she didn't know what to control it with. Maybe one of those remote things. "That makes sense, yes. Are they fun?"

"Well, the Shades are relatively...anonymous, aren't they? They just...appear when we need things, and then you don't see them - though, you wouldn't see them anyways, I suppose. So it would make sense that an anonymous being would come from an anonymous grave, wouldn't it?"

"Yeah, most of the time," he replied.

"I... suppose. It does make sense, if you think about it like that. They're about as creepy as ghosts, at least."

"I wonder if I can get ahold of one, then. Playing one sounds fun." She laughed lightly, toying with a loop of hair.

"Exactly. And there's no other explanation for where they came from, hm?"

"I'm sure Del can show you one you'd probably enjoy."

"It seems like a likely theory to me," he agreed. "Or as close to it as anyone here can guess."

"Hopefully - I'll ask her when she comes over. Once she's better."

"Until we have further information on the matter, at least." Emmy paused, thinking for a moment.

"...Kaito's out."

"Yeah. Hopefully it shouldn't take too much longer for her to get back on her feet... even though she's already kind of doing that." He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at his friend's stubbornness.

Shinju paused as well, waiting a few seconds after her last statement to speak.

"You mean he's not at your apartment, right?"

Sure thing. x3 princesseimi September 16 2009, 03:22:03 UTC
Still, the fact remains that her leg's broken! I'm not about to let her wander 'round the City like that unless absolutely necessary.

That's right. I don't know where he is, but he's taken some of this things. I'm going to assume he's not going to be around for the remainder of the evening...
