It has been too long live journal.. but that is life I guess.
Things south of the wisconsin boarder are wonderful.. I'm really learning to like this place but I have noticed a lot of odd Illinois tendencies here are a few:
1) The speed limit is actually 10 over what the sign says. And if you aren't doing that, they will ride your ass so close you berely know where your car ends and theirs begins. It's scary.. I knew Illinois drivers were bad but man...
2) You know how sometimes there is a slightly raised area of concrete in the center of roads between the two lanes? People here drive on those. Regularily. Yesterday.. I did it too and it was pretty fun. I felt like a native (except for those Wisconsin plates...)
3) They have Super Targets here... which ROCK. It's Target.. with a food store inside! I can now do almost all of my shopping in one place!! And even better.. they don't have a million choices for ever single piece of food.. so it makes choices easier, which is good for me.
4) Cousins Subs are a RARE find here... but Subways are EVERYWHERE... I mean it is almost as bad as McDonald's. I've had Subway for lunch about a million times so far.
5) People in Illinois almost all have nice cars. I have two theories for this. One, people drive like maniacs, and destroy cars too fast for them to get very old. Two, people here drive so much that they almost have to have a new car.. seriously... and hour commute is NORMAL here. My half an hour is coveted by many.
6) Homes here are CRAZY expensive. Things which in Wisconsin would be $200,000 are like $500,000 here and with half the land. There are a MILLION new subdivisions going up everywhere with cookie cutter houses... it is creepy.. but I guess this is where the people want to be.. but still it's crazy.
7) Birds here run in to cars. I mean it.. I got hit by a bird today on my way home.. and I saw a bird hit another car a few weeks ago... what the fuck is that?!
8) Traffic in the suburbs is a non-stop annoyance. Clearly these places weren't built for this many cars.. and now they can't do anything to make the roads bigger...it's a mess.. especially in the morning!
9) The mall in Shamburg is heaven. It's a rich persons paradise.. and a place for me to dream :)
