Argh, these popular reviews are driving me crazy!
"[The novel is] funny, but it's also a wonderful gothic horror story with a dash of romance."
~Ruth Wilson
"All the locations we've chosen are stormy and majestic to bring to life the passion, drama, madness, horror and humour that colours Jane's world."
~Diederick Santer, producer
I'm not sure these people aren't thinking of Emily Bronte . . .
These next two from the same magazine:
"It's easy to see why Ruth stood out at the casting stages - her natural beauty shines through without being showy."
"The BBC's adaptation of Jane Eyre looks set to make a global sex symbol out of Toby Stephens."
Now that's what I think of when I think of Jane and Rochester . . .
"Jane eventually triumphs on her own terms, through sheer force of will."
~Daisy Goodwin
Whaa?
"Thereby creating not just a nice, warm, "aaah" feeling in the reader, but setting up rules of romantic engagement for generations of lovers."
Oh goodness, I hope not!
Also, the first paragraph of
this page I consider to be sheer idiocy . . .
On the other hand, it is encouraging that they seem to be taking a different take on Bertha, and including more of the Rivers section . . . ah me, it is hard to keep my hopes up. :( I was so looking forward to this production!
