What is the most honest thing you said in an interview which resulted in you not getting the job? How often does honesty backfire?

Totally opposite. In my first job interview in Australia (I migrated here back in 1993) I honestly said - Look, I am a professional electronics engineer, and I want the job as a bus driver because I need to support my family. I will not stay long with you and will leave the job as soon as I find anything better.
By all means I had to fail, given to my limited English and arrogant attitude. But it backfired positively. I got the job. I worked there as long as I promised - until I got my first job as an electronics specialist.
Eventually I made a good career as a professional in Australia. But I am still grateful to those guys who gave me my first job despite what I told them. At least I paid them back by being a good bus driver for almost 2 years.
