Quest 276

Back home in Daventry, we have...something of a tradition of telling stories, you might say. I suppose it's only to be expected of a family with a habit of getting into adventures, but it's something we all do and something my father's court chronicler insists upon, besides. When an adventure is through and the journey home is finally at an end, ( Read more... )

Are you collecting stories now too, Rosella?

Well, the thought has been on my mind lately, at least. It does sound like an interesting idea, though, doesn't it?

It does, certainly. But I think I have far more stories than I could possibly tell you.

Yes, I imagine you do. Still, you might pick a few of your favorites, or the ones you like telling best, and that would be just as well.

[This is a pause of consideration]

A few years ago, when I was older, and King, I escorted Susan to get married.

Did you, Edmund? And was it quite an adventure, then?

Well, first off, she wanted to marry this absolutely terrible Prince, Aslan alone knows why, but Peter was fighting the giants in the North and Lucy was staying in state in Cair Paravel. So Susan and I made our way down to Calormen, where the people are fierce and proud and handsome.

[Pause]

When we got there we had a very nice reception, except that the Prince of Archenland, who had been traveling with us, decided that someone had offended him and he needed to go knock him down.

Archenland? I've heard of a few of your lands before, but I don't know if I recall that one. I know Calormen, though. But the Prince of Archenland went to pick a fight, then? Goodness, however did that turn out?

With so many people from so many different worlds here, reading their stories would be interesting. Also, I haven't been here that long, but from what I've learned so far about the City it could also be useful as well.

[Pause.]

Have you really been here for three years?

Well, almost! My anniversary is in August, so I still have another few months to go yet. But it's drawing quite close now, yes.

Which is all the more reason to keep memories as stories, I think. It makes it easier to remember everything that way.

...Stories...

Any story? There's a lot!

[[And she was part of one!]]

Why, yes, Ahiru, any story at all! The important part is that you're the one who told it, not necessarily which story it is in particular.

Well...I was in a story, once. Did Rue ever tell it to you?

She may have mentioned something about it. You all were, I think? You and her, and Fakir and her prince.

We've talked about something rather like this before, haven't we, Todd? Rather like your play, really--a sort of creation of our own, from the people who have been here before for the ones who come after. And for ourselves, really, to help us remember.
