Hair monster?

Mmhmm, a monster made of hair. Or rather, a monster covered in it, I suppose, since it turned out that the hair was actually ours to begin with.

All the residents in the City? Was it growing out of the monster? And you said it had a mother...

Most all of the residents, yes. A few months before it came, the deities had demanded that all of us give them a few bits of our hair, and it seems that all those bits went together to make up the hair monster. And if I remember correctly, he came to the City at all because he was trying to give all our hair back to us, somehow. But then he got stuck, and his mother had to come looking for him.

You know I don't believe in signs, Rosella.

And yet you're making ready for whatever might be coming in the days ahead, just the same as I am. Though I suppose you'll say it's not that you believe in signs, it's simply that you're speaking from experience, hmm?

I like to think of it more like reading the weather. That's hardly signs, omens, or portents.

Well, yes, but having Hamlet or Lear sitting around reading the weather doesn't make for a very good story at all.

I don't think it's silly to worry about what happened. Not knowing this place. But we'll get through whatever goes down.

I'm sure we will. I just hope we manage it with as little calamity as possible, whatever it is that happens to occur.

And hopefully there won't be hair monsters, because ew.

Well, perhaps, but even if there are, at least we'll have some idea of how to ward them off, assuming they're the same variety of hair monsters that we had the last time.

I already had the idea that Adrastus was going to return but I've also been thinking that this is going to represent the final book of The Bible.

It does rather seem like his touch, doesn't it? But, er, what makes you think that, may I ask?

The way the water in the ocean was acting up, the earthquakes, and the meteors hitting the barrier all day.

Oh. Then this is all in reference to a story, you mean?

I don't know -- sometimes disaster really strikes without any warning. But as for this City? Something like this can't mean too well. I was thinking of the hair monster and the preceding earthquake. Honestly, though, I think I'd prefer the hair monster to... other things. At least it could be appeased with lemon cakes.

I'm kinda holding out hope it might just be some new addition to the City, but... I don't know.

Wonder if it would make any sense to go have a look at the barrier. Just to check.

I've been thinking of that too, actually. But some people are thinking it'll be something even worse, or even a recreation of the end of the world. At this point, I really don't quite know what to think, honestly.

Do you suppose we ought to go out and see, though?

Recreation of the end of the world? How can you recreate the end of the world?

I don't know. At the moment, the dangers seem to have ceased, so it might be a good moment to go check.

Well, Huey mentioned something about a prophecy in a story, and how it might be following that, somehow. He seemed to think that the signs fit.

We'll have to go out over the water, won't we? With a boat, perhaps, or...?
