Ah, well then, allow me to wish you the happiest of birthdays today. I wish I had known sooner. I would have gotten you a gift.

Thank you! And please don't worry, Sir Reepicheep. Your friendship and well-wishes are gift enough for me.

Why would there be a dragon?

There was one back home, the last time my birthday was coming up. It'd be just my luck to have another one appear here in the City for this one.

Why would it matter to a dragon when your birthday was?

It's not so much that it would matter to the dragon about my birthday, but it was planning to eat me right before my birthday, so I suppose that counts.

I'm delighted the weather and the City haven't interfered with the occasion.

Now what is this about a dragon?

Oh, you know how the City likes to cause trouble for us. The last time my eighteenth birthday was coming up, a dragon stormed in and put a bit of a damper on things. So a few weeks ago, when I realized my birthday was coming up again, I said I'd be content so long as no dragons showed up to ruin it...which, then, made me a bit worried that the City might decide to be contrary and summon one up for today, just because I'd said that.
