Catching Up From Christmas

Christmas was really great up until one big disastrous event that has shaken up the one side of my family that was the most not crazy.   That's all I'm saying about that.  HOWEVER, this was the first year with my sister's new kids- we don't know what Christmas was like for my niece when she was with her birth mother, but it's her first Christmas with US, and that's what matters.

My sister taught her about Santa, then decorated the house- including Santa chair covers for the dining room.  My niece  saw them the next morning, and came out and told her mother that there was "a man" in the kitchen.  My sister explained that it was Santa, but my niece insisted on calling the chair covers "Man".  She would talk to the chair covers and say, "Hi man."  all month long.

Later, she had the chance to meet Santa.  Santa was terrifying.  She cried and cried and wouldn't talk to him at all.  After that, she talked about Santa, but all she would say was, "Tanta, ewww."  And shudder.

FINALLY the big day arrived.  We piled up the presents, including the two BIG gifts,  rocking horse from grandma, and a kitchen from her parents.  We all lined up in the basement and watched as my sister brought her down.  She looked with big eyes at all the presents, then looked at the rocking horse, and said, "Cow."

My nephew the ten month old ate the wrapping paper and pretty much had a great time.  We'll see what he says next year.
