To my very, very dear friends in the Soul Eater Fandom:
Yes, this fandom is dying, and it has been for a long time to come now. What can I say? It’s not our fault. When the manga lost much of it’s original charm, people left, and I don’t blame them at all. But those of us stick around because we found something more than just a good series.
We found friends.
I have found so many wonderful friends all over the world who loved this series. I’ve lost contact with some, I’ve strengthened my bonds with some, and I am semi-migrating with a few to a whole new fandom. I love Soul Eater, but the canon plot is starting to degrade in quality. There are very distinctive differences now between who ships what and who likes what characters to most.
It’s not surprising, really. Sad, yes, but surprising, no. We were a small fandom to begin with; we can’t compete with the sheer number of fans in Homestuck or My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, or Supernatural, whose fandoms will probably not die for a very long time to come now, even when the series ends.
It is painful to see a fandom die, see dear friends go off to other fandoms that catch their interests, and watch as what was once a wonderful series just…fade away.
But that is not what matters. What matters are the memories you made contributing to this fandom, and the friends that are still at your side. The ones you stayed up so very late at night RPing with, livestreaming with, chatting with, discussing headcanons, drawing fanart, and writing fanfiction, they’re not all gone.
They who remain feel the pain of a lost love for a series, but the best thing you probably ever got out of this fandom is a friend, even just a single one.
I know I did. I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
A friend in one fandom may be an enemy with another, and an enemy in one fandom may be a good friend in the next. Don’t forget that.
