Thoughts from the 4th

(Posted on the 5th, because I got home at 5AM... :7 )

Watched fireworks at Murray Park with deviltenchi, which were pretty good. Lasted 27 minutes, with the crew finding unlaunched ones now and then for the following minute or two after the main display was finished (some companies still apparently go the old-fashioned way: person with a flare in hand). Was about 8' from the 'Do not cross, fireworks' barrier, so we were nicely "up close and personal" to the display. There were a good number of 'concussion' fireworks in the mix (not much sparkle, but lotsa boom), which made me happy (it just isn't a fireworks display unless I can feel 'em in my chest).

Came back, grilled much meat (tried a number of tasty new sauces and still waiting for the elk to finish an almost 24 hour slow cook cycle in the crock pot. Remember, as the slow blade penetrates the shield, the slow cook penetrates the meat with flavor...), then watched The Patriot to go with the theme of the day. All told, good times...

In view of the 4th, I just want to say this: Though this nation may have its faults, I still cannot truthfully say I would rather live anywhere else...
