“Do you know how to fire one of these?” asked Burontich.

Adam picked up the automatic-pulse field drive rifle, expecting it to be heavier, though he wasn’t sure if it was due to the unfamiliar weapon or he was just getting stronger. He wrapped one hand around a front grip, and another on the trigger handle. He curled his finger around the trigger, pulled it out and laid it to rest on the side. Adam tilted the rifle to one side and used his trigger finger to tap a small panel. He traced the simple shape displayed at top of the rifle with the same finger, being careful not to scratch it with the tip of a talon. The panel changed color to red, indicating the safety lock is disabled and the weapon was ready to fire. “I do, now.”

Adam turned the safety back on and placed the rifle carefully next to his visor. “There is a more useful question to ask: is it going to work on that thing?” Burontich slung her own rifle over her shoulder and lifted up an ammunition cache. “The impact rounds seem to just aggravate it.” Adam raised an eyebrow. “Is that a good thing?”

“Just stick to energy bursts and manifold shear-jamming.” said Burontich, after a thoughtful pause.

“By the Norns, that sound. That blasted sound.” said Professor Madrea, in between his dry sobs. “It was eating the ship. Eating. Chewing. Everything, everyone.” Adam gave the Professor an empathic glance and nod, before making his way to the loading deck.

>> While Adam is a scientist, he did elect to undergo very basic military training, since the Alhazen Astrosensory Institute had deep connections to the Milicia. His experience with the Imperial military could only go so far, due to the lower skeletal endurance of most avians. When he’s not encumbered by a gun’s weight (say, in freefall) he’s actually quite the marksman, and he’s very hard to sneak up on.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned that Adam was also a bit of a bearish-figured person? Just getting him closer to my RL shape
