[the transmission begins mid-sentence; the sound of shuffling papers and flipping pages can be heard]
--don't know what it means yet, but I figure it has to be important. [...] The names are the same as the ones you hear around here, and if that's where Green is from... Hey, Al, can you pass me that notebook?
[A pause, much, much longer than it

He's managed to stumble back into a chair, but he's slumped over, elbows on his knees, face bowed low. There's a hole in the wall nearby, and the communicator's on the floor below that, transmitting static.
It's hard to say why he's so fucking angry about it. They took him away once before, and he was almost happy about it. Back then...he'd been in trouble damn near every second. It had been better off that way.
This is different.]

Instead of talking she picked up a chair and carried it across the room. Winry gently set it on the floor next to Edward.
As soon as she sat down Winry reached over and put her arms around him in an awkward hug. ]

...The Philosopher's Stone. Back home, that was the only option, and right before he got dragged to this place he had been so dangerously close to using it. Here they had a real chance, an honest damn shot at getting Alphonse's body back. He had seen him, really seen him, not just once but twice. Here, there was a way. At home it all seemed so hopeless, like grasping at straws. Like looking for something small in a haystack when you didn't even know what it looked like. All that work gone to waste, and now he was alone in this damn place--
He didn't notice her until she put her arms around him, but it was that moment that snapped him out of the thought he was stuck in. That was why he was still here...he still had people to protect.
Taking a long, shuddering breath, he pulled an arm around her. Hell, she was hurting just as much, right? Here, they really had been together. All of them.]

They had been all together. And because of that, she felt like she could endure. Now, though...it was harder.
She wiped her eyes again and looked to him as he drew in a steadying breath. ]
...We'll just have to work harder on getting out of here. Al is much more patient than you are; he'll be waiting for us.
[ It was the only thing she could think of right then to say. ]

Now that Al was gone, what extremes would he go to? She knew that he'd do anything to get back home. However... ]
...Ed.
[ Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke. ]
I know how angry you must be. And I'm sure you're just as determined as ever to get out of here. But I don't want you to do anything stupid -- don't risk your chance of going home. Don't risk too much.
[ She stopped, unsure. There was more she wanted to say, but Winry doubted if she could put it into words properly. ]

Don't risk too much. It wasn't like he had much left to lose. But...
He was silent for a while. Stupid and reckless -- it fit him to a T, didn't it? Everyone had told him so, but he never really listened to it from anyone but her. It was always just who he was, but when it came to her... Making her cry again wasn't an option. He had made a promise.]
...I know.
[It wasn't just about him. Maka, Rin, Sakon, the Colonel and the others, Haru and Kai -- and her. Winry. Her above all the others. There wasn't a way in hell that he could leave her here.]
I'm gonna find a way home. For both of us.
[He had meant to say 'all.' He didn't even notice.]
