[the transmission begins mid-sentence; the sound of shuffling papers and flipping pages can be heard]
--don't know what it means yet, but I figure it has to be important. [...] The names are the same as the ones you hear around here, and if that's where Green is from... Hey, Al, can you pass me that notebook?

When it was silent like that, it was easy to pretend he was fighting this on his own, like he didn't have anyone to think about. But then she said those words -- 'we,' 'us.' And it pulled him back to reality, because there was no way in hell he could leave her there like that, without him, without Alphonse. The others were different, they would be fine. But Winry...didn't belong there in the first place.
And, hell...she was right. Al would wait forever without complaint. Ed wasn't gonna let that happen, no way in hell, and the thought of it made him more angry. How fucking close had they been? Al with that dangerous edge of hope to his voice--

Don't risk too much. It wasn't like he had much left to lose. But...
He was silent for a while. Stupid and reckless -- it fit him to a T, didn't it? Everyone had told him so, but he never really listened to it from anyone but her. It was always just who he was, but when it came to her... Making her cry again wasn't an option. He had made a promise.]
...I know.
[It wasn't just about him. Maka, Rin, Sakon, the Colonel and the others, Haru and Kai -- and her. Winry. Her above all the others. There wasn't a way in hell that he could leave her here.]
I'm gonna find a way home. For both of us.
[He had meant to say 'all.' He didn't even notice.]
